stef tried out college, didn't go well-- he made good grades, but just wasn't cut out for the environment. so, he got a job in retail, and discovered quickly that life is hard for those making a retail paycheck. he ended up responding to a craigslist ad for two roommates, and ended up being one of them chosen (the other is russell; why sage chose him, stef does not understand). now he chills out with his cool friends and tries to keep russell from dying.
