Marrow was always a bit of a disappointment. While he did well in his lessons (His mother would accept no less), he took no joy in them. He hands shook too badly for surgeon's work (Passing out at the sight of blood didn't help either), and a chronic laziness made him more a liability in almost every other high-profile aspect of medical work. Eventually he became little more than a glorified secretary, analyzing and organizing tech brought in by hunters and the desperate- exactly what he wanted.

He has no desire to dip his hands in peoples guts or chase glory. Marrow would prefer a simple life- but with money. When it became clear her son would be no great medic or social climber, his mother grudgingly arranged a marriage into a family that was stable and well-off, but perhaps a little politically stagnate. It was perfect. Marrow had never been one to moon over love or romance- he was not nearly so amateur as that.

Then his sister was abruptly discredited, and vanished into the Mangroves. For a year or so, the once luminous Samovey clan may as well been radioactive. His engagement was severed, and Marrow found himself suddenly saddled with the weight of repairing the family legacy. Instead of rising to take his sister's place, Marrow decided to take an alternate route: Restoring his sister to political legitimacy at any cost. He just needed to find her first.

And then Hanto Magnata burned down in a botched coup. Once again, the rug was swept out from under him, and Marrow fled to the Mainland with the only heirlooms to survive the flames: The family Wavefliers. He'd always had a greater affinity for animals over people, and so as the Tech Wars raged on, Marrow instead found himself with his first true passion project: The Waveflier Breeding program.
