Pith Samovey was born and raised into a prestigious Medic family on Tonpelli. She was given every oppertunity to succeed, and succeed she did, with promising grades and flawless application of her knowledge. Such early successes gave her an incredible amount of confidence, but her hyperfocus on her work left her with a stunted social life. Her one, consistant critique was a notable lack of bedside manner.
In her limited spare time, she took to horticulture, and gardening, taking a special interest in plants and herbs that eventually melded with her ambitions- The ancients were fine and good, their technology well-studied and considered, but were curio not at least as clever? What could they discover, create, if they did not spend so much time fussing over the scraps of a dead civilization? The ancients were gone. But Curio were here. And maybe it was time to develop some new methods, entirely their own.
And so, Pith threw herself into the study of herbology, taking particular interest in anesthetics- surgery was common enough to be rote, but painful nonetheless. It didn't have to be that way. Unfortunately, when she presented her concepts for approval, she was all but laughed off the stage- sending her into a rage in which she cursed out all members present, admonishing them for being cowardly, small-minded, and worst of all, incurious.
Pith was very quickly discredited and disowned, her family scrambling to disavow her to save their own position.
Alone at last, Pith continues her studies without the funding or blessing of the council, and dreams of the day she can rub her success in their smug, incurious faces.
HUNTER'S GUILD: Recruit
Having moved to the Mainland in order to further her studies in medicinal plants, Pith maps out a few key locations with promising flora.

Having obtained two wavefliers at the Livestock Show, Pith makes her way toward the flooded jungle- not to hunt the fugitive, but to take advantage of the situation. There, she manages to con two hunters- Hamish and Yucca- into being her escorts, slowing their own mission in order to collect and harvest interesting local plant life. Tensions rise, and eventually, they are set upon by a snapping-fish, a large, amphibious beast that kills one of Pith's wavefliers. They are saved by Imanes Veeritas, who had been stalking them through the jungle, keeping the path clear of monsters for them. After breaking for camp, Imanes gifts her a number of samples he had gathered while following them, which unfortunately leads into an argument that causes Imanes to temporarily flee the camp. Later that night, Pith sleeps through a snake attack on the camp, only to be woken up in order to set Imanes' broken finger.
The Attack

Following the laser blast, and the failed end of their hunt for the fugitive, the sorry crew make their way back to civilization, and Imanes is attacked- not by a monster, but by another curio.
Back in Dula Dula, Pith and Imanes coalesce, and Pith demands answers about his mystery attacker.

When the news on Tonpelli breaks, both Pith and Imanes rush back to their homeland, intent on helping in any way they can- and for Pith, in hopes of locating her estranged family. When Imanes leaves for the Tonpelli Blues, Pith joins a band of travelling Clear Bells, travelling across Tonpelli and witnessing the extent of the Second Tech War's casualties.
The Mangroves
The war is over, and Pith goes hunting for Imanes, who is still missing. She finds him again in their old stomping grounds- but he is not as she left him.

As the ban on tech-touched travel to the mainland lifts, Imanes is finally allowed to come home- only for him to immediately sign up for Duya's foolish expedition north. While he doesn't immediately tell Pith this, she (correctly) assumes he'll be going, and also signs up for the journey. This is met with immediate resistance from Imanes, but what's done is done, and both set off for the mountains.
Pith struggles with the journey- the snow is eceptionally difficult for her to navigate, and she is in no way mentally braced for the cold. She spends her nights huddled close to Imanes for warmth, and her days staggering forward, refusing to turn back despite her utter exhaustion. The sudden pause to investigate the frozen bodies provides some modicum of respite, as the stop-march allows Pith to recover her energy, and turn her medical knowledge toward investigating the corpses.

More than the promise of new, live curio, it's the discovery of praemon that rally's Pith's spirits. They are tiny, well-meaning, and helpful, and she can't help but be enamored with them- especially the ones who are soft and fuzzy. She adopts one for her own, and names it Marrow Jr- after her presumed-dead little brother.

Late Night Library - Put That Down
The Eisgar prove to be an absolute nightmare for Pith, as one of the smallest in the expedition, she is constantly being picked up and carried elsewhere against her will. Apparently deemed too cute to respect, she begins to pick up extra shifts in the medical tent, just to gain a reprieve from the near constant kidnappings.
In the meantime, she studies the Eisgari language. At one point, she sneaks into the library along with other members of the expedition, and is reminded of her own lost family of librarians, and the libraries of her youth that no longer exist.

With Elskarok on the horizon, Pith gamely attempts to participate in the hunting of gansey. It goes... rather poorly. Despite her position in the Hunter's Guild, Pith is an incredibly poor hunter, being neither particularly fast nor particularly strong. After losing another gansey into the ice, her praemon accidentally skids in after it. In a sudden panic, Pith dives beneath the ice after it, and doesn't resurface for several minutes. It is assumed she's drowned, if not died of cold. However, after seven minutes, she resurfaces with the soggy little praemon, and a revelation: Her waterproof fur (and natural fat,) provide decent enough protection against the cold water, and she is a much stronger swimmer than runner. Later, Marrow would revert to pod form, and rebirth into a stage II praemon.
With her newfound action, Pith finally manages to nab a gansey, dragging it up to the surface with her. Unfortunately, as she carries it back to camp, she begins to have second thoughts, and instead releases it. Imanes happens to see her do so, and after commenting on it, is subjected to a furious refutation of the holiday and the practice of exchanging gansey to be killed and eaten. Upset, Imanes grabs one of the gansey he has captured, and releases it, telling Pith it was meant for her. Rather than upset, this only manages to calm Pith down, its release a more meaningful sentiment to her than the alternative. The two reconcile, and Imanes carries a shivering Pith back to camp.
Books and Botany, March 2022
Pith immediately buries herself in work for the library, as it dovetails nicely with her own studies regarding plants and praemon. She studies what she can, takes samples, takes photos, assists in matching and identifying plants to their likeness, anything to keep her hands busy and her mind occupied. Eventually, the research ferver begins to die down, and there's talk of the expedition splitting up between Brilla's warnings, and Duke's diplomacy. When Imanes attempts to prevent Pith from following him as he follows Duya, the two nearly start a fight- but instead, they talk.
North of Nowhere, April 2022
Despite her insistance that she stick with Imanes, wherever he ends up going, Pith refuses to enter the sled races. As Harkyn and his second group cross the mountains, Pith finds herself strangely upset but the sudden flurry of family reunions and letters from home. In response, she again sets to work, this time working with other Clear Bells who have travelled north to brew some goodwill with the various Hall Leaders who are awaiting their teams, and do some investigating of her own.
Imanes
[ It's over, isn't it? ] For five years, they struggled to take care of each other, clinging together in the mangroves where they'd been exiled. For one year, they struggled to understand as they travelled together in Sonderrime. She's pretty sure she loved him. Now she's not sure they're anything to each other anymore.
Marrow Samovey
[ Little Brother ] While their mother attempted to foster a type of competition between them, Marrow forfeited outright. This left their relationship to grow more naturally, and the two grew close, in the way fellow soldiers grow close. After Tonpelli, she can only assume her soft little brother is dead.
Samovey Sinew
[ Father ] Her idol and inspiration growing up, Samovey was an ominous shadow to stand in. She inherited his skill, his passion for medicine, and most importantly, his sense of medical duty to the sick of the world. Had he been a more affectionate man, they might have been close. Like her brother, he is assumed dead.
Splendid Samovey
[ Mother ] An overbearing woman, she arranged almost every aspect of Pith's life, from her education to her could-have-been fiance. While the two were never close, Pith had nothing but respect for her- until she stood by and let her be discredited. She too, is assumed dead- and the emotions are muddy.
Caella Merseo
[ Cousin ] Her brother's favorite cousin, while the two were never close, they were friendly. They haven't seen each other in years- if she's even alive, Pith doubts she even remembers her.
Yucca
[ An Easy Mark ] Having conned her once into playing escort, Pith has not since really thought about Yucca. They aren't friends. They aren't enemies. Just acquaintances. Brute muscle to be called in, or a convenient delivery service when necessary.
Hamish Grieves
[ A Not-So Easy Mark ] Having conned him once into playing escort, Pith and Hamish have a contentious relationship. He also chucked her across the water once. Rude.
