Hibiki Maiko

Awkward and nervous. Not necessarily shy, they just don't quite understand how to handle social situations. Still, they try to be friendly and polite whenever possible. Often gets 'tunnel-vision' - when they have an idea, it's difficult to get it out of their head. Hibiki tries their best, but can often get caught up in the little things. They hold a mean grudge.

Since she was a child, Hibiki has always had a fascination with animals. Beginning as a simple interest as she fed and cared for the crows around her house, it remained a constant in her life - a driving passion to study and research all she could. She had dreams of being a renowned researcher, travelling around the world while her papers and findings inspired more people like her. Unfortunately, her parents did not have such high hopes. They often chided her for having childish dreams, and that such notions would and should remain as a fantasy. 'It's out of love,' Hibiki would remind herself. 'They just want you to have a certain future.' Still, she ascertained, this was her calling, and she would make them proud.

That was the plan, at least - until one visit home. Her parents announced they would be cutting off their financial support, and potentially themselves, unless Hibiki found herself a solid job to support herself. Desparate, with little to no experience in any retail or office positions, she scrambled to find any job she could. After countless rejections and radio silence from everything else, she happened upon The Ambrosial Institute. While she would have liked to consider herself far too rational to accept a job with such a strange contract, she'd run her other options dry. If she didn't get this job, well... that was it, she feared.
