Sheppard was born into the Larkspur Pack during the final days of the war. In the confusion of the pack's disbanding, he became separated from his mother and brother (Cameron) and ended up in the swamplands of the Black Forest. There, he met Riley, who taught him how to survive without a pack. Years later, Sheppard and Riley teamed up with a few other lone tokotas and formed Aurora Pack.

Being so young, most of the other pack leaders do not take him seriously as an alpha. His leadership style is unorthodox and tends to treat the other packmates as friends more than subordinates. For this reason, and the pack's tendency to ignore more traditional Tokotnan customs, Aurora Pack is considered a bit of a rebel faction. Sheppard's main focus is just keeping the pack together and safe.

"Riley"

They grew up together in the swamplands of the Black Forest. Sheppard sees Riley as more of a brother than a friend and trusts him completely.

"Mika"

Initially reluctant to trust her, Sheppard now considers her a friend and ally. After her betrayal, he fought the hardest to have her accepted back into the pack.

"Tristan"

Sheppard sees him as a sort of younger brother. He tries to help the reckless young pup learn some discipline, but is a little too young and impulsive himself for the lessons to do much good.

"Kon"

While he's more accepting of Kon's oddities than the others, Sheppard is still a bit uncertain as to whether Kon will ever actually fit in with the rest of the pack. He genuinely believes Kon has a good heart, and tries to help him discover that side of himself.
