Vidonia is a timid creature who lives in a small cottage deep in the woods. She is a lover of tea parties, getting cozy near a fireplace and telling stories, and birds. She does not speak verbally, but she knows many different sign languages, and can also communicate through writing and drawing. Her favorite language, however, is birdsong. She can understand most birds who inhabit the same woodlands as her, and can even imitate their sounds pretty closely with her stomach mouth by vibrating her teeth.
Despite her shy and timid demeanor, Vidonia is actually really strong-willed and determined, and deeply committed to her values. She has a very secure sense of self, and though she fears people she's still confident in her abilities and identity. She despises categorization, though. She much rather prefers living in the moment, not thinking too deply about which thing goes in which narrowly defined box.
She doesn't trust others easily for fear of being hurt, but she's a loyal and dependable friend, fair or foul the weather. She takes good care of wildlife and lost travelers. She loves everything around her very intensely and has a deep need to take care and guard the things and beings she loves.

Origin
Vidonia was born from a very large fruit produced by a very large tree in the heart of her home forest. She came out fully formed, never have been a child and yet experiencing the world for the first time. She does not know the reason why she was made, or even if there is a reason, but from the very beginning, she was nurtured by the woods, the tree that spawned her feeding her and sheltering her as she learned about the world and the woods, spreading her metaphorical roots all across the land she loved so dearly. She developed a profound knowledge of herbalism and zoology just by interacting with the beings around her. She is intimately knowledgeable about nature and its cycles.
Interactions with humans
Because her appearance was perceived as monstrous by humans, Vidonia never had much luck interacting with them. Hunters often tried to hurt her, as she dismantled their traps, and children were told to fear her. The small town at the edge of the forest told stories about her, and how she was vicious, and thus Vidonia retired deep into the woods once more, renovating a small, run down cottage with only one room to be her home. Her cottage became a beacon for travelers and other Nymphs, beings like her. It also became a beacon for the local fauna, as Vidonia always set out food and shelter for them when Winter came. The humans coming into contact with Vidonia who found their way back to their homes spread stories of the good lady of the woods, scary looking but overflowing with kindness and hospitality. And thus, Vidonia's reputation improved among humans, but the trauma of being hurt by them still rendered scared, so much so that she covers her mouth with clothing as to not scare people. She also started keeping a journal and studying humans, which she's still relatively unfamiliar with.
Other Nymphs
Vidonia knows some others like her, other Nymphs spawned from magical plants in the woodlands. Some look human enough that they assimilate into human societies, others live even deeper in the woods than she, and some live on the cusp between wilderness and humanity. Vidonia loves them all the same. They often get together for tea or to warm up near Vidonia's fireplace.
Character
[ friend ] Mar is a student that comes to stay in the village at the edge of Vidonia's forest when he gets a break from school. He's native to the same woods as Vidonia. They're both timid, and Mar looks up to Vidonia and her ability to be gentle with everyone. She's an elder to him, despite not having too big of an age gap, just because of her vast experience and knowledge.
