Caspian was always a Guardian, although one of the few whom had a semi-humanoid form. Despite a different form from the typical Guardian, though, she didn't have the same sentience as other humanoids. In fact, almost all Guardians are like this. Elder Guardians are the exception, however, as they gain sentience through a combination of age and power, existing for centuries guarding the Sea Temples. Those that guide the less powerful must know how to do so.

For most of her early life, Caspian was like any other Guardian-- a mostly feral being, carrying out the task of protecting the Sea Temple she was created in. However, as she grew older, she ran into an incident with an outsider. Someone intruded upon the Sea Temple grounds, and of course, she opted to do what she knew best: guard it. When the outsider fled, she gave chase. All to ensure they do not return. But, in doing so, she strayed too far. She grew lost, and with it, a sense of hopeless dread.

Although she'd been chasing and fighting against the Outsider, they soon returned to her. Both sides were tentative at first, cautious and untrusting of the other. However, the Outsider had noticed Caspian's plight. They, a generally good-hearted person, had decided to help her. Perhaps it was in attempt to offer an olive branch, or a move made with ulterior motives. Perhaps it was simple kindness. But the two, through a series of charades, came to a fickle truce.

The Outsider assisted Caspian in finding her way back to the Sea Temple. It was no easy task, though, and took longer than either of them had originally wished. Through this period of time spent together, they formed a bond. A bond that would end up Awakening Caspian. She, though not an Elder Guardian, achieved a greater sentience through exposure to someone who also had it. Through the Outsider, she learned many things. Their kind-hearted nature rubbed off on her forming personality.

Unfortunately, though the two became friends, Caspian still had to return to her Sea Temple. And, lo and behold, the two eventually found it. With a heartfelt goodbye, the two parted ways. Though happy to finally be back in her home, her Awakening would not go unnoticed. Nor would it be welcomed.
