Backstory:

Born as an elven mermaid variant, Rosland grew up in both land and sea biomes, moving between them fluidly and frequently. He's a strong swimmer and has a natural capacity for magic, particularly water and song magics. He's interested in both plants and cooking, and had planned on pursuing either field as a possible profession.

Unfortunately, despite being warned against night travel due to the Crystalker Curse, a potential emergency at the mermaid colony had him sprinting from land to sea without a second thought. He was scolded for the reckless behavior, and both he and his friends and family believed he had evaded the curse at the time, however he wasn't so lucky. After developing headaches on the sides of his head, Rosland discovered the beginning of the crystal growths that would become his horns, and not long after that, the crystal spread to his right arm.

He was fortunate enough that the curse didn't spread further or cause any problematic mutations, but it was still considered his greatest failure in life. He was able to hide the crystals in public for the most part, but they prevented him from pursuing a lot of the opportunities that had been available to him before. So upon suggestion and help from his father, he packed up and moved further inland, ashamed to show himself to the mermaids. Thankfully the town he moved to had a higher population of citizens with the Crystalker Curse, though they were still in the minority, he was able to get a job at a cafe and joined one of the safehouses with a few other Crystas, where he cooks the meals and helps out with his magic.

(He's actually pretty popular in town, since his curse only effects one arm besides the horns. He gets asked out a lot, especially at work.)
