Lesland is not a creature of much notoriety, not any different than really any other bestial folk. Through the hands he’s been traded, he’s been auctioned off and sold as a very evenly tempered, cold-blooded, draft centaur. Known for working hard, mostly to avoid punishment, he never puts up a fuss when bossed around and put before the whip.

Despite being described as being ‘broken-in’ by his master, Lesland is generally very friendly and playful when interacting with those who are not at threat of punishing him. His demeanor is typically very free and dreamy, spirited when left to his own devices.

Notes
  • Leslie's horse half is based off a Tinker horse/Vanner cob build and should always be drawn thick and stocky with feathering below the knees and obscuring the view of the hoof.
  • His human upper body is toned, but not healthily fed, distinctly lacking much body fat that is often used to sustain the rest of his mass on his centaur half.
  • He's has a number of scars from whippings beatings and brandings on his lower half as well as scars from ill-fitted work equipment and harnesses.
  • Lesland is known to dance and prance, when no-one is looking, as a way of indulging himself in his objectively miserable life.

Character

Leslie, having been born into the systemic bestial slavery of Norcrest, learned his ‘place’ in society’s hierarchy early on. With his mother around to teach him to be wary of man and to be reliable when asked to do his duties, he has learned to be a hard-working beast. His empathetic tendencies were learned from watching his mother work with the other bestials around them, doing her best to care for and nurture everyone who came within her reach. Leslie learned the importance of being empathetic to make connections to those around him, feeding his good-natured temperament.

With every day spent learning and living through the horrors of bestial servitude, there are a lot of habits picked up as a way of serving self preservation. With fear of retaliation of those with the power over him, Leslie is at his core, cowardly. Watching humans constantly strike and maim those who step out of line, he’s learned to lock-step into form with his orders. In a way of relieving himself from the daily toils of life, turning inward to fantasies of a better place often take up his thinking space. Sometimes thoughts devolve into overimaginative spirals of fear and worry. This leaves him to be easily distractible in most cases as he tries not to think too hard about the reality of his situation.

[Blindspot || Active offensive ability]

Pros
> High damage means an easy escape if the hit is strong enough.
> Can be utilized as many times as needed, given Leslie’s state of health.

Cons
> The aggressor gets to strike first as leslie lines up his shot.
> Leslie’s AC is drastically reduced because they are in his blind spot.

Because Leslie has a horse’s hindquarters, he has some serious horsepower and is quite dangerous if stepped within kicking range. One swift kick is enough to send someone flying if they don't have their bones snapped first.

If someone is faced with Leslie’s hindquarters, because it is in his blind spot, leslie’s AC drops by 5 points and his strength rises by 5 points until they leave the area of effect. On a successful hit, the victim of the kick must roll a d20 to determine how damaging the result is.

Story

A Horse By Any Other Name

Born from a servile centaur mare, Leslie was born into the system of service that rules over Norcrest and it’s fae inhabitants. Having been passed through hands with his mother over the years, he’s learned about his heritage and faith from her in the wee hours of the night. She was a strong woman who wore her heart on her sleeve and always told her child to believe in the freedom that lies on the other side of the fence. He loved his mother dearly, and she was never short of telling him that he was loved and watched over by their beloved spirits.

Having lost her when whispers of her alternative, heretical, faith got to their master, Leslie was sold off to be someone else’s problem. Heartbroken and devastated, he knew that what his mother taught him was something to be cherished and protected at all costs. After being passed around for a few years, Leslie learned when to keep his lips sealed and persist against the grueling conditions of his servitude. He’d slave away and become worth a little more than the dirt that he was often treated like, finding himself at an auction when he became a little too large for the stable he was kept in.

His most recent trip to the auction house landed him in the care of an older farmer who lived in The Capital outside of the towering walls of Garrison’s Watch. He needed a strong beast to replace his old horse on the farm to work the plows and wagons and Leslie was sold to him on a pitch of obedience and power. Now residing on the farm, Leslie does his best to avoid displeasing the man who’s taken him in and spends his off-hours pacing the edge of his pasture and watching the world pass him by, praying that one day he’ll get the courage to leap the fence and let the wind carry him far away.
