Basics
Luca is an eccentric 14 year old who can typically be found helping out in his mother's coffee shop. He wears mostly clothes he makes himself, his favorite being a brown sailor outfit. His peers view him as strange, and he doesn't have many friends, but the older people in his town adore him and think he looks like a darling in his unconventional clothes.
Luca tries to maintain a cheerful outlook and attitude, even though things are a bit rough for him. Despite everything he's been through, he's a trusting and kind person who seeks to resolve conflicts peacefully. He is a bit of a doormat though, letting people walk all over him rather than confronting them.

About
Childhood
Luca's parents divorced when he was very young. Up until high school, he lived with his father in France and only occasionally visited his mom in Italy. He spent a lot of his childhood being nudged toward interests he didn't have (to his father's dismay). No matter what he did, Luca was uninterested in science, math, law, and medicine. His mother, on the other hand, encouraged him to explore the interests he actually enjoyed since he was little, such as drawing and sewing and baking.
High school
By the time Luca reached high school age, his father wanted nothing to do with him, as he couldn't shape him to fit his standards. Thus, Luca was shipped off to his mother, who was happy to have him.
Luca's mother inherited a cafe called "Caffè Strazio." Despite its unfortunate name, it has many patrons, a lot of which came to the cafe before Alfreda (Luca's mother) inherited it. Luca quickly took a liking to the place, wanting to help out. Henry, one of the two baristas (the other being Alfreda) was happy to see a new face, as taking care of the cafe was a lot for only two people. The cafe's patrons also appreciated Luca's presence. His fashion sense is particularly endearing to the older patrons.
Though his eccentricities are appreciated at the cafe, he is teased relentlessly by his classmates, so much so that he despises school. There is only one high school near enough to where he lives, so he couldn't be transferred elsewhere, and teachers never do much to stop the bullying, despite Alfreda talking sternly with them about it. Alfreda is just waiting for the school year to end so she can start homeschooling him.
Relationships
Alfreda [ mother ]
Alfreda is Luca's mother. She's from Sicily and speaks in a thick dialect, and Luca picked up on some of it even though they live in Emilia-Romagna. She owns the cafe they both work at.
Henry [ friend ]
A grad school student from Cornwall who works at Caffè Strazio. Him and Luca quickly made friends.
