The Forest of Falling Mist has always been an anomaly to those not of fire. How could any plant survive in such a turmoulus land? Surprisingly, these two things tend to go hand in hand. The forest is actually one of the most calm, quiet places in the land, partially because the tree’s roots help hold the ground together, keeping it stable. The indigenous population within also know their forest very well.

The forest is massive, and thick underbrush grows as trees spread through fires, their seeds spread by the flames. This is why, around two times a year, the creatures living within perform the annual Burning of the Leaves, and event in which teams of qualified individuals perform a careful and controlled burning of the forest when the underbrush becomes too thick, helping the ecosystem along and fertilizing the land through the ashes that are produced. This event is truly the only break in the silence and calm of the forest, and even then it’s very subtle. The flames burn silently and quickly, and leave behind cool patches of ashes in their wake. The only way to be injured is if you blunder right through one.

All of this is partially the result of the pungens grumus respective anguis, Vourison, the second child of Maksviah and the result of her consumption of an ancient metal infused with nature and death magics. It was his actions that aided in the forest’s growth, and for it he is praised by the ones living within the forest’s mist. With powers that have connections to fire, death and nature, Vourison is a force to be reckoned with, and it was his actions that saved the centre tree from a curse that would have caused it to rot. It is also he who aided in the calming of Maksviah’s rampage, by showing her the elder tree’s survival and how their aggressors had failed.

About The Forest of Falling Mist

The largest forest in the fire land, the Forest of Falling Mist is forever shouded by falling smoke produced by the trees that grow there. The trees make it and it flows down their dark forms. Traveling through the forest is almost as if wandering through a dream, only half awake. Each tree bears a small gem which helps keep the tree alive, a product from growing in land not only extremely fertile, but also very magically charged. In the center of the deep forest is a massive 'tree', as old as the forest itself. It is also within this forest that the pungens grumus respective anguis (the choking smog snake) Vourison, Maksviah's second child, rests. The ones living within the forest interact with him often, and respect him, following his leadership. The great tree in the center is protected fiercely by those living within the forest, and it was the attempts of outsiders of the fire land to destroy it that spurred on Maksviah's rampage.

The trees within the forest are always bare, except for one week during the summer solstace where they bloom beautiful leaves and flowers the colours of flames. To see it as an outsider, you would think the whole forest had been set ablaze.
