I recently reread the Hobbit and am again rereading Eragon and this design just transports me to that nostalgic land of dragon fantasy!

Also I adore the moodboard you included! That brown dragon with the gem in its mouth was my FAVORITE illustration from Dragonology. No idea why I think it just looked so tasty? XD seeing it I instantly was like YES THIS IS PEAK AESTHETIC

Yes adhering to a specific concept or theme is what really inspires me in my work!! dragonology was so formative for me OMG I completely agree.. and the image next to it of the dragon using gems for armoring its soft belly... chef kiss i always thought that was such a creative explanation for a dragon hoard!

YES!!! I remember that! Gosh it was so clever~ The idea of dragons being like... gem bagworms is so funny and adorable! I'm not sure if you've ever read The Hobbit but Smaug protects his belly this way as well, letting it get imbedded with gems and diamonds as armor. I wonder if Dragonology was inspired by Tolkien that way? : D
