Personality:

Ankaa is, understandably, a terrifying person. With her ability to conjure fire without aid of a tome, and then burn down cities, forests, and even people without batting an eye, many rumors suggest that she couldn't possibly have a soul. Her lack of emotion and expression only proves to make this assessment even more difficult to dismiss, and her connection to the church makes her a very real threat to anyone not aligned with Ysingmyr. 

However, Ankaa is, deep down inside, both naïve and isolated. With the council being her only family (outside her somewhat recently deceased mentor), her actions are guided, if not manipulated, by the council's greed for power and control. After Ysingmyr's flame is removed from her, Ankaa has slowly begun to question the goals of that 'family' -- though given her much weaker state, currently focuses on her own recovery.


Background:

Ankaa was raised at a young age by the church, and closely monitored to ensure that she was not influenced by outside forces. However, they allowed one exception -- her mentor, who taught Ankaa about the gods, and warned Ankaa what was to come if the world did not listen to Ysingmyr's plea. Ankaa studied hard under her mentor, and was subjected to various tests of endurance, stamina, among other much more bizarre and occult trials. The most important of all, however, was her ability to suppress her emotions -- as any sign of such would cause her powers to spiral out of control. 

Once Ankaa had proven her worth, her mentor would give Ankaa once final gift before their passing -- the name 'Ankaa' itself, and with that, the blessings (and burdens) that would come with it. Ankaa would then work with the Council proper. In particular, she was close to the head, Betelguese -- seeing him as a father figure of the sorts, and having also known her passed on mentor, she couldn't bear to see him in danger.

In truth, this was exactly where Betelguese, so desperate to improving the flame's power, wanted her. Knowing full well what would come when her emotions would seep through, he spent years upon years and years to 'perfect' Ankaa -- and on that fateful day, when the island would finally come to bring down the council proper? He fooled Ankaa into believing he was in much more danger than he was in actuality, and watched with joy as the flame begun to consume her.

Both in physical and mental pain, Ankaa can do nothing but watch as the flames consume the capital of Ysingmyr. Silently, she prays for someone, anyone to help -- and of everyone, of everyone that she's known...a dragon, one she's known from long ago, comes in and saves her. A dragon, that she was told long, long ago, was nothing but a monster...

And as that dragon's powers over Ice cools the chaotic flames, with the power of the Twin-Star Weapons, the corrupted flames are brought out of her body, purified, and sent back to the 'source'. The event leaves her unconscious for a few days -- but when she awakens, Ankaa learns that she's been saved. 

And quietly, all she can do is thank her saviors. 


Other Info:

  • The name 'Ankaa' is more a 'status of power' rather than her given name. Long in the past, she used to go by another name, Procyon - though fine with either name, she keeps Ankaa as a memento towards her mentor.
  • While Ankaa can use anima tomes, she does not require them in order to use summon and manipulate fire, even after much of the flame's powers has been drained from her. 
  • Her ability to use fire was matched with her ability to recover from any injury, making her impossible to kill - in post game, she has lost her regenerative abilities. 
  • As she has had little contact with others, conversations with her can be a bit awkward at best, to strange at most.
