He/Him - Lucky Number Twelve - Bi

Aphelion is a Kalon that many would call very, very impulsive as he isn’t the type to really consider the consequences for his own actions. Despite his usual disregard for consequences, Aphelion seems to be able to avoid any long term consequences through sheer dumb luck and a silver tongue. Unfortunately, that exactly is what makes him on the run; the luck he has is very much unnatural and magical in nature. Not that he knows he’s being chased at least; he’s taking his time on a long joyride with on a luxurious spaceship he bought with his own winnings from the federation’s lottery and using said luck to cheat at many of the casinos he encounters on his travels. He’s unaware that the luck he has is actually magical, which makes him a target of the Federation; Aphelion’s home colony dedicated to furthering their exploits in science as they war with other planets.

Magic is extremely rare in space and only a handful of kalons have magical abilities, Aphelion included as being the twelfth to be discovered. The previous eleven have been locked away for experimentation by the Federation as they wish to study and use these powers to give them an edge against other nations on other planets. This is a deeply unpopular practice as many have attempted to call out upon the Federation to release the eleven kalons with no luck regarding it as the country’s lust for innovation continues to grow more and more. However Aphelion, only known as “Twelve” has been able to evade the Federation’s watchful eye as his powers manifested fairly late; the Roman numeral that denoted him as the Twelfth only appeared when he struck it big in the lottery and beforehand his uncanny luck was undetected under the system. All of the twelve total magic users have a Roman numeral on them appear, corresponding to the order they were discovered. As there have been only twelve in the entire galaxy so far, these kalons are a valuable asset for not only the Federation itself, but for everyone in space.

The way Aphelion’s luck powers work is a double-edged sword, as it is mainly passive in nature. While Aphelion doesn’t really think about it, he drains good luck from other kalons subconsciously to make his own luck very high. At the same time, Aphelion is also very unlucky when it comes to everything but evading the authorities, talking his way out of things, and general survival; his luxury state-of-the-art starship tends to break down easily, he has a tendency to just trip and fall a lot, and he often more than not loses money at the various casinos. Aphelion often gets frustrated on how everything related to technology on him just breaks so easily, and he often gets kicked out for trying to cheat at the various games for cheating. However while these problems with his luck are a major headache for many, Aphelion never comes close to losing his starship or his own winnings from the lottery.  Many of the kalons trying to reach him are unaware of these drawbacks are often left confused as any ship that tries to contact his ends up breaking the communications system, whether they have good or bad intentions for him.

Currently, Aphelion is unknowingly still hiding in plain sight as nobody has been able to reach out to his very much conspicuous ship or be able to catch it despite state-of-the-art tracking systems, and the fact he’s completely out of the loop when it comes to what’s going on. However, the closest anyone’s gotten to finding him is in fact a rogue starship that wishes to have him on their side to destroy the Federation for its corrupt policies, and they’ve even managed to get a broadcast to him... not that he cares, he’s still enjoying his joyride on his luxurious spaceship and all that claim of him having magical powers? It’s funny to him, because magic doesn’t exist! Right?
