personality

Magnolius is a mascot character for a rhythm game called Melody Galaxy.

Magnolius has admired the art of magic his entire life, and he strives to someday become an Illumagician, a student at the Illuminous School for the Magical Elite, not only because it is the pinnacle for magicians to strive to, but also because Magnolius desires to prove his worth, as his powers and specialty prove to be rather weak in comparison to other magicians. Magnolius is rather self conscious and hides behind his flashy appearance and bold nature.

A versatile type of magic. It is easy to learn but difficult to unlock it's full potential, but it makes one of the most useful skills in the hands in an experienced magician. This type of magic will evolve with the other types you learn.
learned magic styles

mentalism | moderate skill | learned from roba
This magic style is admired by any for how smart it can make people appear. It can be fun to show off with, but be sure to use it carefully or else you're bound to find out something you didn't want to know. Of course, it's got actual, practical applications too. Can't forget that.
luck magic | moderate skill | learned from happy havoc
With this, you can make everything go your way! Of course, if you don't know how to use it right you may get the opposite result too...

alchemy | advanced skill | learned from reticle
This style of magic goes back to ancient times when people tried to turn lead into gold. Many scholars say they weren't very successful with the endeavor, but with enough training, you're sure you can be!
shapeshifting  | advanced skill | learned from yuramek
You're not sure why you'd want to be anything other than a rhino, but you may as well learn it if you're to become an Illumagician.
elemental magic  | basic skill | learned from gallagher
With this magic style that seems to have been crafted by mother nature herself, you can become one with the earth, sky, fire, and sea. You gotta admit, that sounds pretty cool.
light magic | basic skill | learned from delfino
Ever since this style became common, fancy stage lights have been replaced by magicians who can create even more spectacular effects in some places. You've noticed that Rhythmi has taken an interest to it.

Seeing into the future sounds really cool until you realize that there really are infinite possibilities. But look at this way, you can go down whichever path you choose!

prologue

The game starts with a scene from long ago, of a galaxy that thrived in a golden age of music and magic, where people possessing either talent looked up to the Grand Musegician, a master of both arts, widely renounced for their expertise in both. But when musicians and magicians grew jealous of the other's talent, the magicians began to steal the voices of the musicians, and the musicians created a new type of music that utilized magic to cast spells. Both groups creations not knowing the other's talent all that well, inevitably caused chaos in the form of curses and monsters that ravaged the planets to the point that the Galactic Alliance banned music and magic from coexisting, never again allowing the galaxy to have another Musegician after the former one passed on.

Cut to modern day, and musicians and magicians have been cut off for each other for so long that they now fear each other, save for the fearless few who are not scared by or did not believe in the legends of the world destroying monsters that arose from their interaction.

A space ship whizzes past, revealing Rhythmi talking to her boyfriend J.C., who has just landed on the planet Shimmerstar to compete in the galaxy's largest music competition, The Lunar Crescento. Though Rhythmi couldn't travel with him, she intends to meet him there. However disaster strikes when her ship suddenly crashes into the alien planet, Octanova. Now she's got to find her way to ShimmerStar in time for the competition.

main story

rhythmi's pov

Once Rhythmi reaches the nearest city, she meets a mysterious figure who asks for an autograph. Though the strange figure makes her nervous, she agrees to the autograph, and begins talking to him. As Rhythmi gets to know him better, she feels more relaxed, at least until they're approached by a group of Illumagicians, that is, those who a part of the Illuminous School for the Magical Elite, who hound her for autographs and ask her if she would like to come the Academy to sing. Noticing how frazzled Rhythmi is becoming at the interactions, the man steps in and tells them to leave her alone but they don't listen until he reveals himself as another magician. He formally introduces himself as Magnolius, however Rhythmi once again grows fearful of him once he reveals himself.

Magnolius reassures Rhythmi that he has no desire to hurt her and that he can help keep her safe from any magicians who get in her way if she lets him travel with her, as he is also headed to Octanova to see if he will be accepted as an Illumagician. Rhythmi wearily agrees to let him travel with her.

As their journey continues, Rhythmi and Magnolius become friends and Rhythmi gains experience and money through dance offs, and concerts, learning new dance styles from other characters, musical skills, gaining the money to buy replacement power cores for the space ship, while Magnolius learns spells to make himself a more powerful magician.

Despite finally being on good terms with one another, Rhythmi is still weary of other magicians, especially as she notices that the Illumagician they run into all seem to take interest in her, but Magnolius reassures her that they're just curious because musicians are rare in the areas they visit.

magnolius' pov

The Lunar Crescento is a mere two days away, and Magnolius hears a strange sound as Rhythmi sleeps, so he goes to investigate. He is suddenly attacked by a thief who enters the space ship and steals Rhythmi's voice, however Magnolius is able to prevent the thief from stealing her voice completely, but they still get away. Afraid of Rhythmi waking up and discovering her voice is now only a hoarse whisper, Magnolius puts a sleeping spell on her and leaves to chase down the thief. He searches the surrounding area all night until he is too tired to continue and finds his way into town to report the crime to the local Illumagician Hall, hoping that the skilled magicians could help him get Rhythmi's voice back.

rhythmi's pov

Rhythmi finally wakes up, the space ship a mess and Magnolius gone, so she attempts to contact him, but finds that her communicator had been broken in whatever scuffle took place. Then she discovers, her voice, her most valuable possession, is nearly gone. Having been abandoned by the one person she trusted, Rhythmi breaks down, believing that Magnolius was only traveling with her to gain her trust then steal her voice when she least expects it. Still, she's determined to do whatever she can to get to the competition in time, with or without Magnolius.

magnolius' pov

It's the night before the Lunar Crescento, but ashamed of failing Rhythmi, Magnolius doesn't return to the space ship and instead heads back to the Illumagician Hall, where he overhears the Illumagicians talking about having obtained Rhythmi's voice. In excitement, Magnolius storms into the room, but is quickly restrained by the Illumagicians, as they mistook him for an intruder. They explain that they captured the thief earlier that night and were planning to tell him in the morning, but the Illumagicians have no idea where she is and can't find her space ship, and their only hope to find her in time is to catch her at the concert hall before she goes on to perform.

Without a space ship of his own, Magnolius can't travel to Octanova so he hopes he can apologize after she comes back.

rhythmi's pov

Rhythmi has finally made it to the competition, and though she is determined to perform to the best of her abilities, when she gets on stage, her performance is sabotaged by the Illumagician's own performance, who reveal that it was an Illumagician who stole her voice and mock her for trusting Magnolius. They then steal her voice completely, using it upstage her and to usher in a rennaissance where only their small group could become Musegicians.

Rhythmi can only watch as the chance she worked so hard for is taken before her eyes before she spots Magnolius in the audience. He rushes to the stage, but before Rhythmi has time to react, he summons a chorus of Rhythmis to sing, using the last of her voice that had been stored in his wand since the thief attempted to steal her voice then rushes into battle to take her voice back.

Though it's clear that Magnolius has grown immensely more powerful since he and Rhythmi first met, he still struggles to stand up to all of the Illumagicians while also using his magic to keep the clones singing when the real Rhythmi can't; until J.C. runs into the concert hall late and begins to sing with the Rhythmis, finally allowing Magnolius to focus fully on taking back her voice.

Finally, Rhythmi gains her voice back, which only continues to strengthen her chorus. With all of them working together, they are able to captivate the audience and win The Lunar Crescento.

After the event Rhythmi and Magnolius apologize to one another and Magnolius explains that he left because he was chasing down the thief and that he was able to sneak onboard the Illumagician's ship in disguise to get to the event. He tells her that now that the Illumagicians involved are being expelled for sabotage, the guild will need a new master, and that he'd like to take the position if he can. Rhythmi, J.C., and Magnolius spend a last few days together before Magnolius heads off, hoping to live out his dream of becoming an Illumagician.

post game

In the post game, players can play as either Rhythmi or Magnolius some years after their adventure as Rhythmi tours the galaxy, and Magnolius practices magic as the new Grand Musegician, having learned music from Rhythmi. The two meet frequently during the post game and even take on quests together, where Rhythmi is able to learn magic from Magnolius as well.

Though people may disapprove of you for helping a musician, it would be rude of you not to help her reach her destination.

J.C. is a dj who isn't quite as keen on  traveling as Rhythmi is, instead preferring to stay home, but he won't let that stop him if he's got a galaxy-wide competition to attend. For some reason, you're a bit jealous of him.
