Yorie Yamagishi

Age

17 (in 1999) 29 (in 2011)

DOB

October 5th (Libra)

Height

5’3”

Occupation

Student / Part Timer at local Thrift Shop (1999) || University Student (2002) || Doula / Contract Interrogator for the SPW Paranormal Research Division (2011)

Stand

Don’t Worry Baby

Power

Yorie’s stand typically takes the form of white gloves. When she touches a person while wearing Don’t Worry Baby, she can influence their bodily functions to manipulate them into a new emotional state (raise blood pressure, serotonin, pain receptors, etc etc) She can also impart this effect onto objects, such as those in the thrift shop where she works. The power is only effective for five minutes, but she can prolong it naturally through her wits and the power of suggestion.

Family

Yukako Yamagishi (sister), Onsa Yamagishi (father), Yana Oshida (mother, remarried), Yasu Oshida (younger half brother), Yasune Yamagishi (older sister, presumed deceased)

Appearance

Yorie bears some similarities to her sister, but she is shorter and has a warmer complexion and rounder face. She has mid length brunette hair which she wears parted to one side, and violet eyes (pink in the manga.) Her typical attire consists of her dyed school uniform, a black choker, thigh high stockings and a beret that had been gifted to her by her father when she was a child.

Personality

Yorie is a pleasant, generally laid back girl whose mantra is “fake it till you make it,” relying on the image of unshakeable confidence and courage to get ahead in the face of danger. When she is unable to maintain this facade, she tends to flounder and quickly embarrasses herself. Yorie is a person guided by strong principles, and is very socially and emotionally intelligent, often concerning herself with encouraging and soothing people around her - especially her family members, who she values above all else. She is extremely protective of Yukako, to the point of being unable to think straight. She knows that she could easily control people with her stand, but typically chooses not to out of a sense of nobility. Despite this nobility, she will at times misbehave for the sake of entertaining herself. Yorie feels no guilt lying to people she isn’t particularly close to, often confusing her adversaries by announcing her next action aloud and then doing something different. She can be a bit prideful and even flirtatious - though often this is merely a mask to hide her nerves. Most of all Yorie is encouraging, patient, comfortable being on her own and unbothered by cruelty from Yukako as she knows deep down that her sister loves her and they’ll reconcile eventually.

Theme Song

“Qu’attendez vous de moi ?” by Degiheugi

Likes

Beach rock and Motown classics, Yukako, cinnamon gum and strawberry lace, people who are kind and expect nothing in return, freedom, other people’s babies, her pet turtle Phil, baseball

Dislikes

People who look down on others or themselves, being exposed, Yukako being insulted (this is her temper trigger), other people wearing her hat

Hobbies

Seamstressing/Sewing uniform modifications for classmates, picking up part time jobs, collecting vinyl, pretending to know how to do things she has no idea how to do, searching for clues about what happened to Yasune

DIAMOND IS UNBREAKABLE

Yukako Yamagishi Falls in Love

Yorie is briefly mentioned but not by name when Yukako explains that since childhood her eye had always twitched when she lost her temper (especially when her sister pissed her off)

Let’s Go to the Thrift Shop

Josuke, Koichi and Okuyasu decide to go to a particular thrift shop when Josuke overhears a rumor that it has some brand name items he’d been wanting for a reasonable price.

When they get there Yorie greets them and watches ominously as they peruse the store, her stand taking effect once each of them finds an object and touches it. She toys with them, manipulating their emotions until they catch on that something is wrong and identify her as an enemy stand user.

She announces that she is indeed using her stand on them, and that she’s doing this to punish the one who broke her sister’s heart.

That’s when she reveals that her sister is Yukako and misidentifies Josuke as the one her sister fell in love with. She traps them in the store by using her stand to make them terrified of the exit, and also terrified to approach her.

Koichi announces that he’s the one that Yukako fell for, and while Yorie is confused he instructs Josuke and Okuyasu to use their stands to break the items that they all last touched, releasing them from Yorie’s power.

Yorie is still processing when they confront her, and asks Koichi if he really is the one who threw her sister aside like trash and made her depressed.

Koichi, exasperated, explains what really happened and how Yukako had kidnapped him.

They’re about to get revenge for her messing with them, but are stopped in their tracks when Yorie immediately bows low and apologizes profusely for her sister’s behavior. She tells them that she was under the impression that a boy had taken advantage of Yukako’s affection, and that was why her sister was so upset lately. She had no idea that her sister had behaved so badly.

She goes on to explain that her and her sister grew up in a tumultuous household. Their eldest sister had disappeared when they were young, setting off a series of sad events that led to their parents messy divorce. Yorie deeply regrets going with her mother to live in Tokyo for the majority of her childhood and teens, as she wasn’t there for Yukako (who had remained with their less affectionate father.)

Now that her mother had moved to America with her new husband and baby, Yorie (who can’t speak English and therefore didn’t go along) returned to Morioh and vowed to be a better, more protective big sister.

The boys remain suspicious, but are moved by her earnestness and back down. Considering Yorie’s more youthful appearance, they’re bewildered that she’s the older sister.

All seems well but before they can leave, she reminds them of the shop’s policy “You break it, you buy it.”

Picked Up Something Crazy

After rescuing Shizuka from the pond, Josuke tells his father that he knows someone who owes him that can calm the baby down and maybe help them out.

They bring the baby to Yorie’s shop, an irritated Josuke shouting down his dad’s suggestion that Yorie is his girlfriend.

Yorie’s demeanor changes immediately upon finding out about the baby. She holds her, and Shizuka, being calmed by her stand and affection, reveals herself. Josuke relaxes a little, still having had his hackles up after his last encounter with Yorie.

Yorie explains that it’s been painful being away from her baby half brother and she absolutely adores little ones - though she hastily adds that she is way too young to have one herself.

While Joseph takes a look around the store, Josuke discretely thanks Yorie. After she teases him a little, they discuss his father, and she remarks that she knows how his dad might be feeling.

She herself is trying to patch up her relationship with a resistant Yukako, but she loves her sister so she won’t give up. She tells Josuke that she thinks that’s how his dad feels, too.

This flusters him, and he tries to remain serious, but he smiles at his dad despite himself.

Rohan wants to feel Something

Rohan harasses Yorie to use her stand on him so he can feel extreme emotions to inspire him for a new chapter of his manga. She goes along with it because she’s a little shit and thinks it’s funny to mess with him. It gets out of hand. The two create many problems.

The People of Morioh

Yorie is present beside Yukako during the meeting of stand users after the death of Shigechi. She is sickened by what happened and wonders if the killer has any connection to their oldest sister’s death.

You live like this, Okuyasu?

Okuyasu requests the help of Yorie’s stand when he notices that his dad is feeling down. Josuke insists on coming along as he still doesn’t trust her and doesn’t want her to hurt Okuyasu. Yorie is happy to help as she still feels bad about what happened at the thrift shop, but pokes fun at Josuke for being so suspicious of her.

When they arrive they get derailed when Yorie notices the state of Okuyasu’s home.

Okuyasu explains what happened to his brother, the combination of all these factors sets off all of Yorie’s “big sister” instincts and she insists on letting Okuyasu have anything he wants from the thrift Shop to furnish his house. Okuyasu quickly becomes greedy.

Josuke remarks that he came to protect Okuyasu, but now it seems like Okuyasu is the one taking advantage of Yorie.

Okuyasu ends up unintentionally picking a bunch of cursed items, and the three have to work together to break the curse (which in reality is the remnant stand of a person Keicho had killed). Seeing Yorie repeatedly thrown off from her confident persona inthe midst of the scuffle, Josuke begins to warm up to her and even manages to tease her himself.

Though it’s only shown briefly, a stone mask is revealed to be on sale in the shop.

Yukako Yamagishi Longs for Cinderella

Yorie makes a few cameos in this arc, attempting to comfort her sister and being brushed off. She doesn’t like that Yukako is worrying about her appearance, repeatedly fiercely complimenting her beauty. She also notes that though she is jealous of his hold on her sister’s attention, she approves of Koichi, and hopes it’ll work out between him and her sister. She’s still somewhat bitter towards him, though.

She joins the shopping trip wanting to go as moral support for her sister, but wanders off early to look at clothes. When Shizuka starts to disappear, Joseph and Josuke run off to find her for help.

Sheer Heart Attack

(((((Under construction, I want to add Yorie to this arc and have her bond with koichi and attempt to confront Kira who she assumes killed her older sister.))))))

Janken Boy is Coming

Yorie appears briefly having tea with Josuke, Okuyasu and Yukako.

Koichi Hirose Comes to Dinner

Yukako invites Koichi to her home to meet her father, who Koichi quickly realizes is yet another stand user created by the arrow. Mr. Yamagishi’s stand, “The Chain” amplifies Koichi’s inadequacies and makes the dinner extremely difficult. An excited, blushing Yukako offers encouragement along with Yorie who cheerfully advises Koichi from the sidelines on how to navigate the evening.

Yorie Yamagishi Dates a Vampire

Josuke, Okuyasu, Yukako and Koichi are dawdling in a classroom when they notice that Yorie is in the process of being confessed to by a boy outside. Okuyasu comments on the guy’s straightforwardness, but Josuke looks conflicted.

He wonders out loud if Yorie’s been using her stand on him lately to make him feel weird. His heart keeps feeling tight.

Koichi figures out what’s going on immediately, but before he can suggest that Josuke is developing feelings for Yorie, Yukako cuts him off. She states that if Yorie were the type to use her stand to mess with her friend’s emotions she would’ve used it long ago to make Yukako let go of her grudge. She also notes that the stand only works for five minutes anyways.

Josuke leaves, Okuyasu following behind and feeling a little confused about the tense vibe. Koichi and Yukako muse over whether or not Josuke will realize what’s going on on his own.

Later that evening the boy who confessed meets Yorie at her shop. Josuke and Okuyasu arrive as well, Josuke insisting that it’s because he wants to see if there’s any clues about the serial killer there.

While waiting for Yorie to close up, her date idly messes around with the stone mask and Josuke and Okuyasu witness it turn him into a vampire.

The rest of the night they tail the two on a horrible date until finally the vampire tries to bite Yorie. Yorie outwits the vampire, bluffing to buy time and manages to get a hit in that stuns him.

Josuke and Okuyasu reveal themselves at this point, and Yorie is startled to see them. They discuss what they know about vampires in a comical scene before forced into a confrontation. After a few more scuffles with the vampire and Yorie insisting on being used as bait, Josuke gets in a sneak attack and uses his stand to trap the vampire via broken then reformed steel beams that crazy Diamond had fused with silver.

Forced into submission, the boy laments his new bloodthirsty urges and asks for help, assuming that the three are familiar with the occult due to their unusual powers.

While Josuke calls Jotaro on a pay phone just a few feet away, Yorie apologizes to the boy for getting him into this mess - explaining to him that she had accepted the date because she was lonely since her sister got a boyfriend, and she thought she might feel something later, but she is now certain that she doesn’t feel anything romantically towards him. They part amicably and Josuke and Okuyasu leave to take the stone mask and vampire to Jotaro. Okuyasu comments on Josuke’s sudden sunny demeanor despite the unusual situation.

When Yorie gets home Yukako asks her about her date and Yorie delights that her sister is interested (much to Yukako’s annoyance.)

She explains that it had gotten out of control but Josuke and Okuyasu showed up and helped a ton.

Yukako asks what she thinks of Josuke. Yorie is caught off guard by the question, but eventually turns away and remarks that she gets why Yukako likes reliable guys. Her face is not visible but her ears are noticeably red.

I am an Alien

Josuke has to drag Mikitaka away from Yorie after the “alien” encounters her and she begins to entertain herself by telling Mikitaka ridiculous things are normal for humans (like walking on your hands or posing extravagantly when greeting people.)

Sports Festival

Kira’s father hits another Budagaoka student with the stand arrow, and that student is now secretly attacking others notable for their athletic skills leading up to the annual sports festival. Koichi convinces Josuke to act as bait to lure out the enemy due to his significant physical prowess. They team up with Hazamada, using surface to create an extra Josuke to participate. Yorie ends up tasked with babysitting the unsettlingly flirty surface Josuke, keeping him out of trouble while Hazamada redeems himself by confronting the enemy stand user.

Highway Star

Yorie makes a brief cameo in this arc, offering to use her stand to give Josuke some adrenaline to help him ditch Yuya’s stand.

Enigma Boy Part 1

Yorie is mentioned in this arc.

Another One Bites the Dust

Yorie runs into Jotaro, Rohan and Koichi in the group attempting to catch Kira. She expresses worry for Hayato and assumes he must have a great burden on him, asking what she might be able to do to help.

Crazy Diamond is Unbreakable

Yorie discovers an unconscious Okuyasu and uses her stand to restart his heart with a boost of adrenaline, and later appears behind him when he reveals himself to Josuke, Hayato and Kira. She helps as much as she can during the confrontation, unafraid to fight Kira if necessary.

In the aftermath of Kira’s death, Yorie uses her stand again to ease Josuke’s pain from his injuries with serotonin. She furthermore shocks Josuke and the others who had grown used to her easygoing persona by fiercely reprimanding him for nearly getting killed. While he’s still startled she then gives him her heartfelt thanks due to her belief that her sister can now finally Rest In Peace after he fought so hard to protect the town.

Goodbye, Morioh Town

Yorie is present for Reimi’s goodbye, in the background Okuyasu asks her if she’s crying and she begs him to be cool.

She appears twice in the after credits, once visiting Okuyasu and Yukako in their class, and again in a separate scene continuing to use her stand to ease Josuke’s pain from his injuries.

Side Story : Talk to the Dead

The year is 2002. After finishing highschool, Yorie moves to New York to study at Smokey Brown University. Outside of school she takes on a job as Shizuka’s nanny to help out the aging Joestars.

One evening while getting 3 year old Shizuka to sleep, Yorie tells a scary ghost story that frightens the girl just a little bit too much. To keep her from turning invisible, Yorie lies that she’s a powerful medium that can guide the dead to the other side so Shizuka doesn’t have to worry.

Unfortunately for her, the amnesiac ghost of a certain serial killer (Kira) happens to have found his way to New York and overhears this conversation. Curious and amused when she reveals that she can see him, he enlists her help. Out of fear and bravado , Yorie keeps up the lie despite having no real ability to do anything she claims. With the help of precocious toddler Shizuka and bemused Kira, Yorie unintentionally gains a reputation and helps a number of people suffering from “hauntings.”

As Kira recovers more of his memory, Yorie recognizes him and finally gets the chance to ask if he was the one who killed her oldest sister.

Return to Morioh, JJBA Part 5.5

It’s 2005. Yorie, now 23, returns to Morioh after graduating from university in America. Josuke, 22, is a rookie police detective who’d been taken off the force after he uncovered something he shouldn’t have (people going missing.) Josuke is now working as an investigator for the Speedwagon foundation’s paranormal research department while he tries to pick up the pieces of his life. He is uncomfortable with accepting help from his dad, and determined to solve the mystery that led to him getting kicked out of the police.

Okuyasu works at Tonio’s and is working on opening up a bakery. Koichi & Yukako are getting married soon.

After she gets framed for the disappearances, Yorie seeks out Josuke for help and the two, along with their friends, must work together to uncover a massive conspiracy happening in their sleepy town.

(PART NOT YET TITLED)

It’s 2006, Yorie takes a trip to Italy to tie up loose ends as she steps away from her career in fashion design. Unfortunately nothing is quite so simple as she gets caught in the middle of a slow building rivalry between a reformed Passione and an underground organization full of disenfranchised former passione members.

Her fiance, Josuke (now fully working as a private investigator for the SPW paranormal division) isn’t far behind when he learns that she’s gotten herself into trouble again. What he doesn’t expect is to meet and have to learn to work side by side with his gang boss great great uncle.

Stone Ocean

Yorie, pregnant and generally exhausted, is called in by the SPW foundation’s team of scientists, hoping to use her stand as a means of collecting information.
