Pepolino is a prudent person who thinks twice about anything before he will do it. Maybe because he was born blind and has to be more careful with his decisions then others. He is a little bit wary when it comes to trust people! That's not because he can't see them, he can see people for what they are even without his eyesight, but because he doesn't like to depend on others. Sometimes he can appear to be very distant, because he likes to think that he has everything in control and dosen't need others around him to keep it that way! Sometimes he fails at it, but he rather lie about it, then face the fact that he needs help. But when he opens up and trusts someone, he is a very happy and carefree person. Pepolino was never someone who listened to mockery about himself. He rather ignors it then start an unnecessary fight. When it comes to life he takes one day at a time without stressing himself.
His most remarkable strength is his creativity in different situations. Some might say he is clever, but most of the time he is just really cunning to get things to turn out like he wants them to be. As a big brothers he felt the need to protect his sisters with all kind of stories and wild fairytales he came up with. Since he was blind he had to see things a different way and build up an very good imagination.

S t o r y


Life

Pepolino was born in Paris and grew up with 3 little sisters (Estelle, Evelin and Emma). From his birth on he had been bling and even if it was hard when he was a little child, but he soon got used to it and made his way in life. Pepo had his other senses who became better every day. When they were playing hide and seek, he would always win!

As the big brother he cared for them when their parents where busy with work. He loved to play games to make his sisters laugh. They weren't rich, but their father had a good job as a shoemaker. Sometimes they had rough times, but Pepolino tried to distract his little sisters with stories he came up with. He even build them into his stories, made them fairy princesses and queens that looked like little beautieful butterflies.

But as long as his sisters and parents where alive and had something to eat he didn't care about anyone other in the world. Times got better and the little shop of his father had more commissions then every before.

Death

That was when Pepolino began to get thinner and thinner. One day he couldn't even left his bed for days. His sisters were so worried about him that they would tell him about all the butterflies in their garden and tell him stories to make him feel better, like he did to them. It was hard for him to feel his sisters and parents in such a deep sadness.

It was the first time he was greatful to not be able to see, so he didn't have to look into their tearful faces. Within two month he felt his life come to an end and when he faced death someone in the darkness asked him if he wanted a second chance!

It seems your life has come to a sudden end, what a pity!

Pepolino thought for a moment and then took the offer.



Awakening

His world was still dark, but he could feel the sun on his face and hear the wind murmur in his ears like never before. The sweet smell of popcorn was in the air and he could hear the jolly music of an organ in the distance.
A voice spoke to him from his side. It was the Ringmaster, welcoming him to something he called 'The monochrome Circus' that would be some kind of home for him now. Explaining what would happen to him now, he took him further. „As my new worker I need you to take this.“ he said and put something into Pepolinos hands. Feeling it with his hands he figured it had to be some kind of lantern. The Ringmaster affirmed what he tought and told him, that he would be send into the word to collect something called 'Essence'.

„In this world something dark exists, something called 'Obscura'. They are shadow like creatures that attach themself to a human being and feed on their emotions. The more it feeds the more powerful it gets and the more distressed the fragile human becomes.“

„If it feasts to much, the human might die or even take themself out of their own misery! Without emotions humans become a lifeless shell without the desire to live.“

„So my little busy bee that is where you come in handy. Destroy the Obscura with your powers and collect what remains of them, collect the Essence and bring it to me!“

„Its up to you how merciful you will be. If the Obscura feasts you get even more Essence, but can you let another human suffer for your own good?“

„I gave you everything you need now get out there and collect as much as you can und soon you will be back, together with your beloved ones!“



Now

From that day on Pepolino traveled through the world on the search of Obscuras to collect the Essence for the Ringmaster to get back his life and be together with his family again.

The Monochrome Circus

It's a circus that was created by the Ringmaster and is some kind of Home for all his Artists. But don't get fooled it might look like an ordinary circus from the outside, but that is only a disguise. The place is full of real magic and lots of doors to every part of this and other worlds. All the lost souls keep this place alive and breathing, filling it with the power it needs to exist. Well not without the powers of the Ringmaster of course!

Everyone has his own room here and can go and come as he pleases as long as they keep their end of the deal. You better not get caught slacking or the little minions of the Ringmaster might have to keep you going.

Outside the Circus humans are not able to see the Artists.

The Lantern

Is something the Ringmaster gives to anyone who makes a cintract with him. It's shape is always different and fits its Owner. It contains strong magic and helps their owner fight agsinst the Obscures. However it's power is limited and it has to gather magical energy after a long use. The abilities it is granting also change from owner to owner and mirror something from their past life.

The Doll

A man called the Needleworker sews every Doll of every artist of the Ringmaster. Through the Dolls he collects and hides somewhere hidden, the Ringmaster has the Ability to contact anyone everywhere they might be. He also is able to see their physical and mental state through the shape of the doll. It contains a part of their souls and should it be destroyed so will the other half.

The Look

Every new Artist gains a new look so they fit into the Circus and others will recognize them for what they are. Since the Circus is monochrome the most colors are black and white while everyone keeps 'one' color to themself.
