Cold and calculating, Terradream is a workaholic and doesn't offer much room for relationships with other people.

In Public

When he's in public, he lies and claims to be only human, and he gives his name as Tom. He's his usual cold self, doesn't speak much at all, and generally doesn't care much about strangers. While he has little to no interest in every person he comes across, he isn't heartless, and will stop to help strangers for a couple of reasons. One being if it's something he feels could be dangerous, as he doesn't want anyone getting hurt, another being if it's something he could do that's small and not that taxing for him.

In Private

In private Terra is still quiet, and he still rarely lets down his guard (especially since he's aware of a certain co-worker of his that stalks him for no good reason). Even at his residence when he's off the clock he'll try to prepare himself for work, and oftentimes needs his Fairfin to remind him and help him get to bed at a decent hour.

With Loved Ones

With his friends or loved ones, Terra is somewhat snarky and playful in his own way. He's still blunt when it comes to giving advice or simply sharing his opinion, but he enjoys poking fun at friends. He only lets people very close to him know that he's half Dreamer.

The Beginning

Terradream is the first and last child of Summer's Dream and Fabian Mackintosh. His mother, Summer's Dream, is a golden Dreamer who moved from the Land of Dreams to a colony in Pola-Opposies, where she met and married Fabian, a human. Together they had a comfortable little home and were happy to settle down and start a family together. Fabian was a teacher for the nearby school, and was eager to share his knowledge with his son as he got older.

On his eigth birthday, a Nightmare came... She and her pack wrought havoc on the town he lived in, countless people lost their lives and others were taken, but it wasn't a random attack. The leader of the Nightmares came after Terra specifically, at the very place they had been celebrating his birthday. Before her pack began terrorizing the town, she herself appeared to Terradream and his family in the place that they had been celebrating his birthday party. She trapped them all in the building and killed many of his friends and relatives while forcing him to watch... She saved his mother and father for last, and between the two of them she was going to kill his mother first. When she lashed her chains at the Dreamer, her husband put himself in the way and was killed instead. The Nightmare mocked and taunted the Dreamer mother and her son, but by that point the Knights of Order and other brave souls were fighting back the Nightmare pack, so the Nightmare grabbed Terra and fled..

She took him to one of her most fortified strongholds and tortured him, presenting herself as some wicked "mother" figure to raise him into the Nightmare she wanted him to be, and one of the things she did was she chewed the tip of his left ear off.

The Recovery

Terra, to this day, does not know how long he was being held by the Nightmare, but thankfully he was rescued by a brave group of Knights of Order and he was reunited with his mother. With their home in Pola-Opposies destroyed and with both of them fearful to go back to that world, Summer moved with Terra to the Land of Dreams—the Dreamer homeworld. There they found a home in Howaito, the capital city of Crestldora, and tried to rebuild their lives. Terradream didn't take it all that well, first being clingy to his mother after everything that happened, but he gradually became bitter, feeling as though their old lives were being buried and forgotten. His feelings of bitterness only grew when his mother later remarried during his teenage years, and he would often argue and insult his kind step-father, Solace Dream.

PHYSICAL COMBAT

Terradream is exceptionally skilled at hand-to-hand combat, as he continuously trains and pushes himself to be the best he can be. This is where his human blood actually helps him though, as Dreamers are normally built more for speed, him being half human gives him more bulk, more strength, and more endurance. Regardless of how he trains himself though, he would always much rather solve violence with a gun, as it's quicker, less painful, and he doesn't have to truly feel himself taking someone's life with his hands.

EARTH MAGIC

Magic that manipulates the ground and rocks.

Terra inherited this magic from his mother, Summer's Dream. Using it, he can lift large boulders or small jagged rocks out of the ground and levitate them to throw them at things, or he can cause rocks to form around his body as extra armor if he needs it. However, he can only use his earth magic on the ground.

PLANT MAGIC

Magic that creates or manipulates plant life.

Magic that Terra inherited from his father. With this magic, Terra can create all sorts of magical plant life, from vines, leaves, grass, flowers, and even small trees. He's more creative with this magic than he is with his earth magic, and can use it more freely, as he doesn't have to be touching the element to use it.

Imagine it almost like Pokemon: he can do a sweeping motion with his arm and unleash a flurry of razor sharp leaves, he can control the direction they fly in. He can cause vines to grow out from his body or the ground and he can control them. He likes to create tall grass and small trees in scenarios where he needs more cover or a higher vantage point, however, the range with which he can do this is limited. As much as he wishes he could do more with his magic, his human blood holds him back.

All of the plant life he creates has a bright green glow that matches the glow of his late father's magic.

SHAPE-SHIFTING

The ability to change forms.

Practically every Dreamer can shape-shift into something, it's part of what makes a Dreamer a Dreamer. But some Dreamers lean towards other aspects of their magic more than others, whether it's their ability to summon things, or their elemental magic. Of course, this is even more clear with half-bloods, who can have their unique abilities stifled or weakened. While Terra has two forms natural to him, he only can shape-shift into one other form. Being a half-blooded Dreamer, the process of shape-shifting is slower and more tiring for him compared to pure Dreamers like his sister, and he can't stay in his alternate forms for as long.

Terra prefers not to shape-shift into his other forms much anyway, not even his Dreamer form, as they all have characteristics of his human form in them somewhere. He thinks he looks like a "unnatural freak" in those forms, and would rather have strangers think he is purely human. This purely human disguise of his has helped him get into places that his other Dreamer friends and even his sister can't get into.

When Terradream moved back to Pola-Opposies, he got himself a job as a bouncer where one of his coworkers there introduced him to smoking as a way to loosen up. He's been a light smoker ever since. He'd say he's not addicted to it, but admittedly he would turn to it frequently when he's stressed or feeling overwhelmed. He knows smoking is bad for his health, and as a result he has tried to find "safe" things to smoke that are more organic or natural without a terrible bunch of poisonous chemicals. He also does not smoke anything to get "high" or have an altered mental state—he only smokes to relax.

With the life that he leads, he has terrible nightmares and sleepless nights frequently. He's seen a psychiatrist that has prescribed sleeping pills for him to help him with both falling asleep and also quelling his nightmares. He just has to remember to take them... Which Sparky helps remind him of that.

While Terradream himself doesn't like alcohol in the slightest, his coworker Larry is an alcoholic, and occasionally he'll go to the bar with him. He only drinks a little and not anything strongly intoxicating because he can't afford to get drunk with his current job, and he's extra cautious with it since he doesn't want to have any bad interactions with his sleep meds.

Terradream has a very quiet laugh, rather more of a snicker than a hearty laugh. I imagine his laugh sounding like the reporter who started laughing at Chris P. Bacon the pig.

Terradream doesn't use a lot of curses when he speaks as he was raised knowing better and he has a Fairfin who gets on to him when he does curse. Generally speaking, the only curses he says is phrases involving hell, primarily "What the hell?" when he's shocked at something or furious at someone.

• When ShadowPikaboo originally created Terradream and Purity Dreamer's designs, she had no idea he and Purity were going to be siblings, and that's why their designs are so different. Even I didn't come up with the idea of them being siblings until after the fact, but it opened up possibilities for an interesting plot point with them.
• I didn't decide on Terra being half-human until years after he was made.
• His personality has undergone a lot of changes over the years, originally starting as a nervous, shy, and awkward nerd character. I really came to dislike that type of character though, so I've had him mature. He still has a little bit of that in him though, but it only comes out now when he's around a girl he likes.
• When I first took the personality quiz for Terra, he scored 1% Extraverted / 99% Introverted.
• Before I made Terra half-human, there was a possibility that he could've had a tree form he could shape-shift to, since trees are living things. However, now that Terra's shape-shifting abilities are more limited, that's no longer possible.
• Dreamers don't count how old they are, but instead they judge a person's age by their mental and physical maturity. Terra does keep track of his age with numbers though, because he's not fully a Dreamer.

When I first received Terradream's design, I had two ideas in mind for him. The first took more inspiration from his earthy green color, and was Terradream, the second drew more from his yellow-orangey colors and was Dreamstorm. I decided to go with Terradream, and I'm glad I did, as his personality likely would've been completely different if I went with Dreamstorm.

Design Inspiration

His color scheme was inspired by an old t-rex toy that ShadowPikaboo has, and she also made him the color green because she didn't like the color green and knew he was originally just meant to be killed off. As for his human form, I don't know exactly what inspired his appearance, as I'm the one who designed it, but the only things that I can think of that could've inspired that hairstyle of his is Leon S. Kennedy from the Resident Evil series, and maybe James of Team Rocket from the Pokemon anime? I didn't see Miles Edgeworth until much later after I designed Terra's human form.
