Personality
Confident and arrogant, mischevious but not very clever, head full of dumb and heart full of ass are all descriptive of Mauchi Ejinn, hunter-bard of the Ejinn tribe. One would not expect such a self-centered man to be fitting the role of a hero, but thankfully his heart's desire was set on helping others long ago. Indeed, Mauchi finds plenty of joy in helping others. Be it a glamerous battle or a simple farmer's plea, Mauchi is there. Perhaps his altruistic deeds are fueled by less-than-altruistic motives at times, but you would never find a more loyal and fun companion than him.
To strangers, Mauchi is an eccentric who can't say no to an offer. He can be snarky when angered, and is not shy about pulling a weapon at the slightest provocation. He is, after all, very eager to test his mettle against others. The stronger the better, and Mauchi is prepared to push himself to concerning degrees. But you don't become a Warrior of Light if you're sane.
Mauchi makes friends quickly. Its hard to dislike such a cheerful and fun guy, until he reveals his mischevious side. While not exactly a prankster, Mauchi is extremely chaotic at heart and is always down to mess with people. Like a cat that smacks that valuable vase off the table and knows he will still be loved, Mauchi loves doing exactly what he's told not to do. He can also be very touchy with people, and often flirtatious, making him a stressful buddy for the high-strung or introverted.
Though he puts himself first, Mauchi genuinely enjoys the happiness of others. It infects him and makes him warm like no fire could. He can be as self-sacrificing as the most altruistic hero because of this combination of love of the people and his own arrogance. Sometimes, this means he pushes himself too far, and against the wishes of others around him.

Summary
(Pre-ARR) Azim Steppe
Mauchi Ejinn was born to the Ejinn tribe of the Azim Steppe. A small little tribe that specializes in swimming through the rivers of the steppe, be it to hunt fish for food or to ambush another tribe. It is said that their scales have been formed and carved by the currents of the river so they swim with the agility of eels. The constant cycle of attacking tribes and defending from attacks of the steppe taught Mauchi his martial prowess at a very young age. Had he stayed in the steppe, he may have even been able to carve a name for himself in the stories of the tribes as a champion of the Ejinn. However, when he was a teen, his mother left the steppe and took him along. Twas but a traveller's song they overheard in Reunion of the wonders in the lands beyond that inspired her to leave, to seek a life that was more than just endless combat.
Mauchi was angry and did not initially understand why his mother whisked him away from his comrades and a life of bloodshed. Everything outside the steppe just didn't make sense to the boy, why things were decided by shiny metal or arbitrary rules. But he watched how people smiled when he and his mother helped them- how the tired soldier thanked them when they shared their rations, how the starving mercenary smiled when they hunted a deer for them. Something gentle whelled in him, and he wanted more of that feeling. In the end, his eagerness exceeded the energy of his mother, who eventually wished to return to the steppe. Mauchi felt Eorzea calling to him, something in his core that urged him to leave for the continent, so he and his mother parted ways. Mauchi ended up in Ul-dah, where he was enchanted by the whims of black magic.
A Realm Reborn
Mauchi quickly demonstrated his capabilities as a Black Mage, his affinity for destructive tendancies fueling the chaotic magic art. Though he would later switch to the much more agile Archer class, he made good friends with Kazagg Chah, Da Za, and Dozol Meloc. Mauchi was more than ecstatic to learn of him possessing the Echo- for how can someone such as he not enjoy being able to take on the feared Primals that others can't for fear of temptation?
After the destruction of Ultima Weapon, Mauchi rode his high of victory eagerly to the doorstep of Syrcus Tower, summoned by his friend Cid. It was there that the chaotic frenzy that is Mauchi met the mischevious and adventurous G'raha Tia, and while the latter was eager to toy with the former at first, they quickly grew friendly and their chaotic delight for adventure was only magnified together. Mauchi was torn when the Miqote sealed himself away in the tower, thinking he would never see G'raha Tia again.
Heavensward
As the accusations of murdering the Sultana and the betrayal of the Crystal Braves forced Mauchi and Alphinaud north to Ishgard, Mauchi worked tirelessly to try keep Alphinaud in good spirits, as weary as he himself was. Thankfully, the good company they were recieved in soothed both hearts, and with renewed vigor Mauchi threw himself into the simmering pot of Ishgardian politics. Not a few times however did the Au Ra hear a mysterious tone on the wind. Especially when he was alone on the snowy hills, with the endless grey of clouds stretching far beyond him- he would hear something almost akin to a song. A song filled with sorrow and endless rage. Little did Mauchi know that the Dragonsong was calling to him, and that the Echo spared him from turning on his friends. On the bright side, when the tides of the war with the dragons started to turn to peace, it was knowledeg of this song that gave Mauchi the empathy to understand the dragons. When Nidhogg threatened to destroy the fragile peace both sides were barely clinging to, Mauchi strung a bow with the rage of the Dragonsong, so that he could see the happy hearts of the dragons.
Stormblood
Mauchi was quick and eager to focus his attentions on smacking Primals before he was quickly embroiled in politics again. He was happy to return to Doma and the Azim Steppe, though he did wish it was under better circumstances. And he certainly did not expect to be vying for the Dawn Throne, but with the strenght of the Mol, the Ejinn, and his Doman and Eorzean allies by his side he led them to a thrilling victory which claimed him khan of the Steppe. His mother was very proud, but she was more proud of the kind, if not very chaotic, man he had become.
In the several clashes Mauchi had with Zenos in the pursuit of liberation, he found for the first time a foe that even he couldn't overcome. Mauchi's efforts burned with the desire to overcome Zenos, moreso than freedom from Garlean control. And in the final clash with Zenos-Shinryu, never had Mauchi's blood pulsed so quickly, never had his body burned so hot with adrenaline. Every moment he felt like he was on a fine line between life and death. And like Zenos had insisted, he enjoyed it.
Shadowbringers
With the (supposed) death of Zenos, Mauchi felt frustrated. He had tasted a fight unlike any other, but he could not find another anytime soon. So he threw himself vigerously to chasing down the reason behind the Scions' mysterious comas. He was torn- a part of him wanted the Scions back and healthy, but another part just wanted more combat, and for once he felt guilty for it. When Zenos inexplicably appeared again in Grymlit Dark, even being Elidibus in the prince's body, Mauchi eagerly fought so he could forget his guilt. But his satisfaction was never answered, as he was pulled into the First world at the last second.
Thrown into the First, Mauchi was glad to fill the hole his unfinished fight left with restoring night to Norvrandt. He dismissed the build up of light magic as nothing to worry about, until it cracked his face open after absorbing the energy of Innocence. Taunted by Emet Selch and the unveiling of the identity of the emissary, and subsequent kidnapping, and with pulsing unbearable light threatening to turn Mauchi into his worst nightmare, Mauchi bared his teeth to the idea of losing himself. With vicious desperation he and the scions clung to hope, clawing their way to defeating Emet Selch and freeing the First from never-ending day.
Endwalker
As Zenos and Fandaniel worked to destroy the world in any way they could, Mauchi and the scions ran around like plucked chickens doing everything they could to stop them. As much as Mauchi yearned to put more arrows into Zenos, he couldn't let this desire sway him from his new responsibilities. When the final days threatened to destroy the world in dispair, Mauchi dipped into the happiest part of his soul to fuel his songs, that he may lighten the faces of even the most hollow. He was most eager to play his songs to a Garlean audience, who would've heard the tales for the first time.
Elpis proved to be a massive turnaround for Mauchi, who expected little from his travel back in time. He drank all the information he could from the place, partially fueled by the desire to sing the untold tales of the ancients. Instant was his comraderie with Venat, who shared a passion for travelling, and a good-spirited spar. Bitter was his departure, so vexed was Mauchi about being torn away from a fate he couldn't change. As he watched Meteion fly into the sky, he vowed to drown her song of despair with his own song of hope.
Ultima Thule- the end of the universe. Lonely were the moments before Mauchi's confrontation with Meteion, quiet to the point of unbearability. So he sang a little song to himself. As he summoned his friends back to aid him, as he faced Meteion's trials and gave her the gift of rainbow-white Elpis flowers, and as he fought Endsinger on Shinryuu-Zenos's back, the song blossomed into a booming chorus. Mauchi was hardly surprised to see Zenos at this point, but eagerly obliged the man their last duel. He continued to sing even throughout the battle, almost taunting Zenos by refusing to refute or respond to him. When the last arrow punctured Zenos's artery, and the last swing of his scythe scored across Mauchi's torso, the fight ended. And as Zenos gave his last mumble, Muachi gasped out the last verse, ending only when he heard Zenos fall completely still. Even the scions- from the great distance of the ship to the surface of the planet- felt the last notes of the song end as the victorious Au Ra succumbed to his grave wounds with a cheeky grin on his face.
Fully relieved were his friends when Mauchi managed to pull through.
