Maelen acts different depending on what the situation is that he is in. If he is on the plane of Nirn, interacting with mortals, he comes off as aloof, quiet and very, very forgetful. This makes him often unapproachable or turn people away from conversing with him due to the constant need to repeat themselves as he forgets something the moment he is distracted. He is a handful to manage when in this situation and often finds himself alone because of it. When he's comfortable, he tends to lightly sway with happiness.
In his own realm, however, Maelen is a keeper of Knowledge, a true son to his parents of both mortal and daedric nature, and strives to bring life back into civilazations and creatures that had been long gone and extinct-- one of them being his own people, the Lilmothiit. He speaks with elegance and a soft vibration to his voice, keen to uphold his heritage with pride. His own small realm that he had been granted is used for practicing the arts of that which he finds books about-- such as fighting, or crafting, anything of the sorts so that he may store the information in his mind. The actions of himself when he is on the plane of Nirn often embarrrasses him, not seeing it as appropriate.
► History
Maelen is a cross breed between a Lilmothiit and a Daedra-- an unusual occurence. He was born to his mother during the last years that the Lilmothiit were known to roam in the Black Marsh, before being taken in by servants of his father when the Knahaten Flu hit in 2E 560. Due to his nature, he never quite adapted to living like mortals did, making him an easy target. However, once his servants brought him before Hermaeus Mora, they found that his upbringing went smoother than it had before and the child actually seemed to understand the lessons it had been taught. Ever since, his studies had been focused, with him being trapped and confined in the realm that he had been given. It acted as both a sanctuary and haven, as well as a prison.

[ observer ] As a son of Hermaeus Mora, and a self proclaimed keeper of knowledge, Maelen's interest in Riala is purely from the standpoint of the fact that she had been deemed worthy enough to claim a gift of his fathers. She intrigues him, and when he is not on Nirn his mind often drifts to her and her power.
