Thorn is a very hard pony to become friends with. It isn't that she doesn't like friends but she is very choosey on who she wants to be friends with. This makes her come off cold and judging, but once she knows what a pony really like and the walls fall she absolutely would protect anypony who is her friend.

Her job is mostly to protect Sundancer, who is part of the upperclass. It is obvious the two have affection for each other and if someone is close enough to the two they would find out they are actually in love with each other deeply, which makes Thorn protect Sundancer even harder.

Thorn can first appear just like her name, spiky and unfriendly. She appears to have a cold attitude to most people, almost judging those she meets. However Sundancer and others that get close knows she is soft underneath her protectiveness. She can be kind and caring, and very attentive to other's needs when necessary. It is obvious she is especially this way towards Sundancer.

It might be hard to become her friend at first, but once her friend you got one for life.
