Character Notes

  • ✦ He has ADHD, an unknown condition in those times. His father always thought he was useless because of this.
  • ✦ He is a really honest and kind man, but he can't really show it to others as his father had always told him that kindness is weakness.
  • ✦ Despite being homosexual, he has always been good at hiding it. He's really scared of anyone learning about his sexuality, specially his father.
  • ✦ Prays everyday, multiple times per day. Even if has had a bad life full of unfair and mean situations towards him (mostly by his abusive, awfully strict father), he still believes in God's kindness and waits patiently for the day where things will improve.
  • ✦ He has a twin brother called Andreas, and he's the favourite of their father. Amadeus has always felt bad about this, and grew up with an inferiority complex, thinking he'd never be as good, obedient and useful as his brother.
  • ✦ He usually looks very sad, even when he smiles. But he doesn't notice that.
  • ✦ Despite his shy looks, he's actually outgoing and really likes to talk, but he has never had the chance to show his true self to others while studying in the monastery.
  • ✦ He adores God more than anything, but he also fears Him.

History

Amadeo is a young man living in Spain during 1940s, in the middle of Franco's dictatorship. Amadeo's father, Francisco Aparicio, is a francoist, but Amadeo doesn't understand much of this situation as all his life he has only cared about obeying and doing things right (which many times he didn't manage to do due to his mental disorder, ADHD).

Despite this lack of awareness of the situation of his country due to his father forbiding him to research, he doesn't like to see people suffering in the streets. Since he was a kid he had been assisting in the church, and now he's studying and working hard in the local monastery to become a good priest. Sadly, things there aren't as good as they seemed to be, and Amadeo would eventually learn that being a religious man doesn't mean being a good person. He knows he has nothing to do to escape from Spain and the dictatorship's cruelty, and he can only obey orders from above while slowly noticing how corrupt the Church is, as well as how little his father cares about his well-being.
