♦ Frost-tail ♦ Name: Frost-tail [ Frost- ] name given by Wolfstar as he joined Archclan for his pale pelt and blank stares. [ -tail ] given for his agile movements and quick stepping. Previous Names: [ Birch ] Birth name, given by his family and temporarily forgotten after traumatic events. Although re-used in his alliance with rogues, he no longer goes by this name but will still respond to it’s call. [ Frostpaw ] Name given upon joining Archclan and during his time as an apprentice [ Frostbite ] Name given upon becoming an Archclan warrior, chosen for the harsh bite of his words and later changed to Frost-tail upon his rejoining. Gender: male Appearance: With sleek short fur, Frost-tail is visibly lanky and without much fighting muscle. He has long legs that allow for faster movements and distanced attacks. His dainty paws and careful stepping make his moves silent and hard to pick up for untrained ears. With a long tail he’s able to balance on most surfaces and in various heights but his favorite is using it to quickly change his direction without losing momentum. He has an angular face characteristic of javanese cats, complete with long ears and a feathery tail. Genes: Shorthaired, dilute siamese lynx-point with low white. Rank: Warrior Previous ranks: loner, apprentice, warrior, rogue (Grapple), rogue (Hawke) Mentor: Tigerthroat, Snowlily Apprentice: x Skills: Information Gathering | Frost-tail has always been a silent cat, selecting simple sounds that couldn’t be exactly pin-pointed to a cat over words and being physically lithe, stealth was always something that came easy for him. He lacked presence and a voice, once he trained his ears to pick up even the slightest of sounds easily, he became skilled in gathering and relaying information even from a younger age. Weaknesses: Fear of water | Having experienced trauma related to drowning, for the majority of his life Frost-tail evaded the water like a plague. From the general avoidance of water, the tom missed on some fundamental swimming lessons that render him useless when it comes to large bodies of water. Coming in contact with water would often cause him to relive his past traumas. You would get an useless pile of wet fur and nothing more. Personality: + observant . protective . loyal . caring . / fluid . social . playful . - silent . evasive . selfish . brute . The key characteristic to Frost-tail is his fluidity and, in most cases, it will be the only side of him you’ll ever truly experience. Having lived with a multitude of cats, Frost learned from a young age you couldn’t quite treat everyone the same, specially not if you wanted outcomes that would benefit you. He was quick to learn and adapt, approaching every cat he ever met with a blank canvas, letting them paint their traits on him and he would become someone else entirely, tailored specifically for each individual. At first it was trial and error but soon he began judging better and making better choices, approaching without expectations and turning any situation into something he could take from. He would often use this behaviour to learn about others, analyzing their interactions and drawing all the information he could from others. This, however, left most of Frost-tail’s true personality to fall short. With each new cat came a whole new behavior, bending to meet ends until he no longer behaved in any specific way. Only through constant interaction those who were very attentive could point out his playfulness, always making a game out of things even if he ended playing by himself. They could notice the envy that lied underneath carefully crafted features at the sight of others who he found to be important being with others or how he never seemed to be careful enough when he engaged with others or how he never seemed to answer when asked personal things. But they were the only ones who could tell he would put his life in the line for those he loved and cared about. Backstory: (for summary check the group history) [ I ] Birch was born to a small family of loners that resided far beyond the old territories. They had come together with other families as well, making a small group that generally looked after one another without taking to hierarchies or leaders. He had an older sibling by the name of Wisteria, the only surviving child from the couple’s previous litter. There had been complications, bound to happen when there were no healers to assist in the birthing process. The accidents from their first litter did not stop them from trying and, a couple moons later, the mother had given birth to Birch. Although the protection of the group as a whole was the general concept and reason for staying together, it did not guarantee safety to the individual. In particular, an older adolescent, Jagged, often picked on the young by convincing the mothers he could babysit while they hunt. This gave him a chance to gather some cats to do his biddings and no one seemed to mind at the time. There came a time when Jagged came upon Birch but instead of directly picking on him, he used him as bait to get Wisteria in his group; but Birch was a curious cat and he wanted to be in with the ‘big boys’. Jagged saw an opportunity and he took it. It didn’t take him long to realize that Birch was the perfect solution for eavesdropping on older cats and so he would send the younger tom on little adventures to spy on others but when Birch started getting a bit too smart for Jagged’s liking and Wisteria began getting in his nerved, he took things into his own paws. It was easy to separate Birch from the group, bringing him towards a near-by lake. The tom gave Wisteria a last warning before attempting to drown Birch. He was stopped by Wisteria but not before some heavy damage was done to Birch. Terrified, the last he saw was as Jagged brought Wisteria down into the water the same way he had done with him moments earlier but he lacked the courage to save her. So he ran away. Not home. Not anywhere he knew he could be found. His sister was probably dead and all he wanted to do was forget. [ II ] He had been wandering on his own, feeding off scraps and rotting left-overs when the hunger became too much. He had no idea where he was going and, in order to stop the memories haunting him, he began pushing away everything he knew. He tossed away his name, his past and put behind him all that had happened. Atop of it all a wall to keep everything away. And it worked. By the time he found the clan cats he had purposely forgotten everything but the last few nights. Perhaps it was that they saw him as a helpless kit that Wolfstar and Stormchaser brought him into the clan under the name Frostpaw. He would train under Tiger-throat, or so was intended but the she-cat was barely around. He became good pals with the medicine cat at the time, Heather, and her mate, Possum. The tom had began teaching him about fighting alongside Heather, figuring it would be good for an apprentice to spar with the medicine cat. He also became friends with Skyspirit, someone who understood him and never forced him out of his comfort zone. There were plenty of good memories, from dancing in the snow and chasing each other’s tracks to simply lying down and telling stories. There was also the leader of the neighboring clan, Loststar, who he would bring flowers to daily and the love-salty chickadeeflight, who had a stepable tail. By the time the clan saw the Shadows as a threat and Skyspirit disappeared from camp, Frostpaw took to preparing for the incoming war where he would battle alongside his mentor. A rogue that caught him by surprise scratched his face and left very clear marks over his features. As the war came to an end, two Shadows were brought to camp to join them but Skyspirit was still nowhere to be found. Assumed dead, Frostpaw figured it wouldn’t be necessary to hold onto information of cats who weren’t around and so Skyspirit was forgotten alongside his former mentor. He was assigned to train under Snowlily and, although things didn’t quite go along nicely, they both attempted to make an effort. Unfortunately, Snowlily was far too confusing for Frostpaw and in due time, she too became a forgotten memory. At a similar time, he became good friends with Swiftstream. Skyspirit’s return wasn’t exactly well received, as it became a whole new experience for Frostpaw and a painful event for Skyspirit. But with the shadows came the plague and the stars led some former Shadows to the clans to behave as guides for a group of scouts from the clans. He was chosen to go in the journey alongside one of his best friends, Swiftstream, and alongside Jaymask, Foxfang, Mothwhisper, Littlefang, Grouseheart, Batfang, Phoenix, Hedge, Cascade and Shriek, they set off to find a new home for the clans. [ III ] The journey was long but not as harsh as it would have been expected. The group received a lot of help from groups and loners along the way. In the city they had met Cortez, who made everything far more enjoyable with his cheerful attitude, helping them escape from yards and dogs as well as using his influence in the city to keep possible threats away. They met Old Girl at the vet (and possibly many others I can’t remember off the top of my head I’m sorry.) They quickly reached the end of the city and entered the forest. Cortez refused to come along with them, looking pained as he left the group to return to the city. It didn’t take them long to realize how much Cortez’ presence had helped them as they were almost immediately attacked by Havoc. As Frostpaw came to investigate, the raven attacked Shriek who came to help him, causing her to fall and break her legs. Their numbers dwindled as Hedge left to bring Shriek to the city in hopes of saving her. Around this time, a forest patrol demanded a toll, taking Mothpaw and Cascade from their group. As they went deeper into the forest, they figured it wouldn’t be good to leave the two cats behind and devised a plan to ambush Grapple and free Cascade and Mothpaw. It… didn’t quite work out for the group as Grapple’s rogues had them easily defeated. They didn’t fall at a complete loss, however, as Draco was killed in the process and Mothpaw and Cascade returned to the group. Finally making it out of the forest, they came upon the land that belonged to the soldiers. Unfortunately, without going further to explore, they turned back throughout the fields to get the clan cats. There was a storm and Cortez showed up to help them, much to the clan cats’ surprise and they stayed over with Lotus and Heron (and Lassie I think she was called?). The group eventually made it back to the old territories to gather everyone and what was left over of the clans set on the great journey. During it there were plenty of losses, cats getting separated, killed by dogs ad run over by cars (looking @ u bald dad Sentry). (I honestly can’t remember anything else that was super important to point out end me.) He sparked Tiger-rasp’s curiosity, a mysterious ally the tom was. [ IV ] When the clan cats settled on the new territories, issues began sprouting. It turns out there had been a small group of cats living in the area, who later presented themselves as the Soldiers. They weren’t looking for any trouble and they, probably reluctantly, gave the clans their territory. At this time Frostpaw, now Frostbite, began feeling rather uncomfortable in the territory and left after saying his goodbyes to Skystar. He made it to the forest, pushing back thoughts and events and greeting them as a blank slate. It was thanks to Slasher’s interest in the tom that he was welcomed into Grapple’s ranks under the name Birch, where he quickly took a liking to one of their healers. Rain. Birch didn’t quite hesitate in going against the clans, even offering the higher ranks such as Diablo and Grapple herself his knowledge of clan life, which he had assumed had picked up from observing rather than having actually experienced things. He attacked Duskclan, engaging in a fight with Briarstar before the group was chased away by foxes. When the time came, Birch found himself fighting against Skyspirit during the war against Grapple. The leader talked some sense into him, triggering some of the memories that had been buried and forgotten, prompting him to quite the fighting and temporarily joining Archclan. Though, when things cleared up with Grapple and hecking Nymeria took the spotlight, he was quick to turn his attention to Hawke and her group of rogues, offering all of his help into finding and helping rain. He wasn’t of much success, however. Word came to the rogues of a loner by the name Wisteria, of similar appearance to himself, was looking for Birch near the city. The tom couldn’t quite pass the opportunity and left without warning towards the city. Finding the other was as hard as it could possibly be but he found himself traveling alongside three ex-clan cats, a former rogue and a lizard; Honey, Storm, Fallen, Vogue and BF. Whether voluntarily or not they helped him before going on in their journey. Now reunited with his long-lost sister, she took care in detailing all that had happened before Birch first left her side. She explained the situation with Jagged and how it was never meant to scale and become so terrible. Some issues were sorted and a weight was lifted from the tom’s shoulders after he processed all the information. With Wisteria’s help, they worked together around the memories, piecing things together. Realizing all the damage he had done to some very important cats, he said his goodbyes to Wisteria and headed back to the clans in hopes of mending things. It was not a fresh start like he had told himself. No, there were scars burned into his memories that he would learn to live with. There was a lot of progress to be made but for now, and until they would have him, he would stand with the clans against the Black Feathers and anyone who turned its back against the clans.
