Meenakshi

మీనాక్షి

Long ago, Meenakshi was a princess amongst the commoners in Southern India, or as they would think of it as their kingdom. Her parents would often question why she was so skilled in things that other females were not. Including fishing, kabbadi and various other persuits. However they did not fret for long. For a God soon spoke to them and explained it was all meant to be.

Time passed and Meenakshi grew, both in age and beauty. Many suitors came, failing to appease her. However her brother was soon born, one that stuck with her through thick and thin, like a shadow. She did not need anyone else, and possessed all the qualities needed for a blessed life. Little did they know, her brother was that same god that had whispered all those years ago.

There was once a suitor that had passed the tests and become her consort. If only for a lifetime, thousands of years prior. However his parents were demons that did not want their child to be with one so simple and pure, so they tried to slay the goddess. This is what woke the powers within both her and her brother. Their story repeats now and then, however. None truly reside beside them for long. Many adore Meenakshi, for how can you not? However, there are not many the goddess adores.

Popularly depicted in ancient times in a sari, with a crown and her companion, a rose-ringed parakeet, Meenakshi was indeed beautiful.
