HER BIOGRAPHY

Growing up

Sylvia's family is Dutch. Her family taught her Dutch and German as their first languages. She is fluent in three languages and loves learning more as she is just facsinated by language. She was born in the Netherlands and her family moved to America when she was 9, She wasn't given an explanation why. Her father Eustacious was the one who taught her language and to love literature. He is a college professor and has been for years. Sylvia was much closer to her father. He wasn't always home since he taught but she loved any time he would help her with homework or read her stories. Her mother was a housewife and cared for her growing up. She didn't have a ton of friends and preffered keeping her head in books and nature.
Sylvia has always loved school and did very well in school (obviously excelling in English). She went to public school despite always wanting to go to an art school. She doesn't have a musical or traditional art talent so she did'nt apply despite considering herself an artist (of literature).

Life with Liesl and Rosie

She met her girlfriend Rosemarie through a penpal project in school. The two ended up connecting very much and Sylvia didn't tell Rosie when the project ended. They ended up continuing to send letters and photographs until Sylvia finally confessed her love through a letter written in June of 1960. Now, after years of saving and planning, Rosie has come to America to be with Sylvia and brought along an orphan girl she rescued on her way

• Sylvia loves sweet foods and fancy pastries. Rosemarie loves baking and often makes desserts for Sylvia.
• Every language Sylvia speaks in order of how fluent: German, English, Dutch (all very very fluent), Italian, French, Spanish (all studied for fun, not fluent just basic understandings).
• The last name Rose was started as a pen name. Her legal name is Sylvia Demesmaeker. She changed her last name to be pronounced easier and to flow better and sound cute and memorable. She loves gardening and roses are her favorite flower.
• Sylvia is a lover of nature especially sunshine and summertime. She loves filling her room with lots of flowers and plants and always loves to just take in natural sunlight..
