"Can't go to hell if we're already there!"

Kel could be considered as the counterpart to her brother, David, though it wasn't always like that. The The two of them are twins, and as such, grew up sharing everything; a room, clothes, music, toys, test answers, parents, friends, and their obsession with machinery. With a father who made his living as a mechanic, it wasn't all that surprising when the two kids took after him and showed interest. Both are extremely smart and they picked up quickly on the ins and outs of what was strewn around the garage and house without much assistance. Both Kel and David would take whatever parts or pieces were leftover or set aside and fashion their own contraptions.

As they grew older, they would often get into trouble for playing pranks and causing mischief around their hometown with little gadgets, and they only got better at it. However, none of it was mean-spirited, and the times where the two of them would actually cause legitimate problems were few and far between. That was, until a sudden drought of both water and food overturned life for everyone in the area. All were affected, but those in the lower and middle class soon realized that they couldn't sustain themselves with the loss of jobs and the rapidly declining amount of work that they could actually do.

It was after several months of struggling that the government of the capital city, Riverhead, sent out a mass notice to all towns and cities affected by the drought, urging the citizens to come to the capital where there were homes, work opportunities, and programs that would help the afflicted get back on their feet. With no other option, Kel's family registered, packed up what they hadn't sold or pawned off, and boarded the Track to the capital.

However, all those who sought refuge soon realized that what they thought would be a safe haven was instead something much less desirable. The city and its government, though well-meaning, were unprepared for the number of people that flooded in within the next two months. This led to shortages of food, water, shelter, and supplies of all kinds and the situation quickly devolved into chaos and violence as everyone fought to keep their family and friends alive.

This was when Kel’s family began to break apart. Both her mother and father managed to get a job, but their work requires them to stay overnight at the facility that employed them, leaving Kel and David alone at their small, one-room home on the outskirts of the city. Frustrated and angry with the situation and the lack of help and support from both the government and David, who didn’t dare to start trouble, Kel took it upon herself to do something.

Kel discovered and joined Liberation, a radicalist group that advocated for equality and the lives of those whom those that live in the inner city consider as less important. This group, though new, amassed a large following and gained infamy within the entirety of Riverhead for its extremity and tendency for violence. Started and operated by a young viscet named by his followers as “the Phoenix", the group quickly drew the attention of the authorities after a break-in at one of the supply shelters. Kel's involvement only deepened as she and Phoenix grew closer, much to the displeasure of her brother who rightfully saw him and his people as dangerous and volatile.

The song I chose feels like something that Kel would adopt as her anthem; describing her current standing and position while also showing how different she became because of it.
