Profile
Concept
- Generally called him deer boy
- New name: Cupid (after looking at Santa's reindeer); it means desire and is the roman god of love; youthful and cute
- Is a creature inspired by fauns but basically a deer version of a faun
- Based off of whitetail deer (and a little bit of fallow deer) in appearance and habits
Appearance
- References on my pinterest
- Went with human hands rather than cervine hands (cool concepts found online)
- His human portion I'd describe as lean and toned; no fur; his skin is mid-tone and he often stays in the shade
- His hair is short, neat, and light brown; it cannot grow any longer, because it is connected to how his deer fur grows; he does not need to cut it
- His eyes are light brown
- His coat is still reddish and has white spots like a fawn (a baby deer) just because I wanted it like that
- Proportionally he's kinda young like 18-20 human years
- His antlers are still developing, rounded with three prongs at the end based off of whitetail and fallow deer; it changes color depending on its shed and sometimes is in velvet
Habits
- normally lives in a forest and does normal deer things but does human things too like use tools and bathe in the stream and cook
- omnivore - eats plants mostly but also berries and small animals like squirrels and birds; has a ruminant stomach able to digest plant food
- uses tools to do things like hunt and draw in/mark key locations and polish antlers
- he's normally bipedal but he can go down on all fours if he's scouting something or needs to flee; only for short times though because it strains the spine and isn't good for his hands
- scares off potential threats by standing up tall and yelling
- his human facial expressions and vocalizations are readable by humans but he cannot talk and he's usually quiet; may make deer-like noises
- the antlers are a source of pride and a means of identification other than the face; they're carefully taken care of and he doesn't let almost anyone touch them; they can be used as weapons in an emergency
- makes good use of his sense of smell and it's better than humans'; he has scent glands in most of the usual places a deer does and makes use of them by rubbing them on things and urinating on them
- he likes being petted on the head especially behind the ears
- he has a powerful kick to defend himself; specifically, he has legs more powerful than most deer because he has to support all of his weight while biped
