Silke could have been someone, you know?

Twenty years old from a community of desert mages, Silke has almost no magic of his own. He can just barely move lightweight objects, like pens and papers. Even the warmth and cooling spells taught to toddlers are too much work for his body. 

At 14, he and a classmate were hiding out in an empty classroom, practicing spells far beyond their training. Silke was simply following the textbook. His classmate was doing.... well, even he doesn't know what he was doing that day. Nor does he know what exactly what happened next. But when the dust settled, Silke was unconscious and badly injured. 

When Silke woke up, he had no magical ability. None. He couldn't sense the energy in the world around him, let alone harness or redirect it. In a world where everyone is expected to be capable of magic, this is like losing a limb. Imagine if in today's world you found yourself unable to operate any electrical device. This is the predicament Silke found himself in. Years of physical therapy have brought back a little bit of ability, but he will never be able to function normally again.

To make matters worse, he hasn't been himself since. He feels more clumsy, less poised. He's more volatile; he's often energetic, maybe cheerful, like he's motor-driven, but he's also prone to sudden bouts of anger and breakdowns. Some days it all just gets to him and then he spills his cup of tea, or there's a hole in his favorite shirt, and it's over. He knows he's overreacting, and that spilled tea isn't a valid reason to be crying on the floor. But he can't stop. 

His parents are wildly overprotective of him these days. It's not that they don't love him. Quite the opposite. But it's hard to survive out there with no magic. Anything could happen. So he has to stay inside. He used to try to sneak out through his bedroom window, but eventually his parents found out. His window is barred shut now. 

Silke's main goal is to get out of his house. He knows he will never be the same person he used to be. But he wants to be his own person and live his life as himself. Not the glass child he's been for the past few years.
