Profile
Lihua has a bad habit of being very act now think later, often following her first instinct wherever that might take her. She's brash and likes to talk a big game, making crass jokes and bets at every given opportunity. She's spent much of her life proving herself, and it shows, in her willingness to drop everything to prove a point or show someone up. The practicality of her promises comes second.
Surprisingly for all her bold talk, she's remarkably good-natured, quick to retort but very hard to actually piss off. Most things are a game to her, and she struggles with taking things seriously, most of the time. She would much rather get into a fight she can't win than face and resolve any of her personal problems. She prefers keeping things shallow, and doesn't wish to explore more sensitive subjects.
She's spent most of her life attempting to hide her bending, or on the open seas where there's no earth to bend, so she is terrible at bending, and often forgets its an option for her. She's also very awkward around other Earth Nation individuals, and prefers to avoid the country.

Lihua's childhood was normal for the most part - running down streets with her siblings, playing in streams and cramped alleyways, running errands for the wealthy people uptown to help support her family, making little pebbles float, falling asleep in class -

Her parents holding her hands together late at night, whispering to each other in hushed voices. Their middle child is a bender - if anyone finds out, she's going to be taken away - they have to do something about this. They have to keep this secret. Their grip tightens around her fingers and they impress upon her how important it is that she never does that again. Lihua doesn't quite get it - what's so harmful about throwing pebbles around? - but she agrees, mostly to make her parents happy. It doesn't take long for the promise to break.
Her parents, shoving a bag in her arms before turning her around and pushing her into the arms of some stranger, tears streaming down their face as she shoved into the back of a carriage. Everything is dark before she can even say anything. It seems her actions have had, for the first time, real consequences.
Her life significantly downgrades from there. The carriage stops and she is pulled back out, arriving in a strange, unfamiliar land, with threatening, familiar symbols. They put her in red clothing and darken her hair, informing her of her new life in the Fire Nation. She has to work for room and board - "employed" in a hotel, cleaning and toiling away every single day to keep the business clean and operational. A few of her "coworkers" are in other situations like hers. No more books or learning - just work, and strict rules around her at all times. Out of the window, she can see ships coming into the harbour. She stares out at them for a sense of comfort and feels a twinge of longing...

- knows her way around a sword - prefers her fists, however.
