PERSONALITY

At their core, Ainsel is a soul determined to stay carefree. But despite his effort to appear catty, unbothered, and untouchable, he is quick to sentimentality in the right circumstances. Gifts (both physical and informational) are the fastest way to his heart.

While he is an expert at smoothing things over magically, he can be incredibly selfish, egotistical, and petty as a consequence of being raised by Fey. His moral compass is, at times, unpredictable. Regardless, he's able to captivate others naturally and is the ultimate extrovert except in times of stress, during which they are liable to disappear for days.

childhood

Like most changelings, Ainsel was not raised by his birth parents. Instead he was left with the Story and the Muse, two fey residing in a quiet glade of the untamed Feywild. Though he is still unsure whether their relationship is romantic (or even friendly), the pair raised him as their own son--albeit with little direct intervention. Amid the everchanging landscape of the plane, Ainsel explored fearlessly, though unbeknownst to him he often had parental help getting out of trouble. (He has not since learned accountability.)

emergence into the prime

When Ainsel reached 17, the Muse made an announcement: as a mortal, it was necessary that Ainsel experience the Material plane and live among others of their kind. He was eager for a well-populated playground, but vehemently resisted her logic. Ainsel still refuses to consider himself on the same level as a typical mortal. Upon reaching the Prime, he was struck by what he called the "dullness" of life outside the Feywild. To Ainsel, even the dirt felt dirtier--but this only gave him something to feel smug about. This relocation preceded much travel, merrymaking, and adventure--and much making of friends, lovers, and enemies. With his arrogant attitude and strange, fey-touched morals, Ainsel was a divisive figure at every new stop. His various personas thus have a litany of reputations across the map.

the lost son of tomorrow

Ainsel's aimless travels halted at the age of 22. After recieving an invitation to a festival challenge and accepting with little thought, he was quickly swept up into mercenary work for a kingdom he frequented as a flirtatious air genasi. They were suddenly foisted with responsibility and teamwork in a party dubbed Tymora's Four.

With them, he chanced upon knowledge he'd long rejected: the identity of his birth parents. Worse, his father Eobaird--the mortal king of a city lost to undead--is long dead and his mother Vesryn--the Archfey lover of the Everlight and small goddess of Tomorrows--is somewhere between planes, reachable only through enchanted mirrors holding her echoes. With this revelation, Ainsel defects to search for Vesryn.

VESRYN VON MORN birth mother

Vesryn's story is known in the Prime as one of hubris: of an Archfey fancying herself worthy of a goddess and being lost as a result. Nonetheless, Ainsel was hit with an unfamiliar, all-consuming aching upon learning their connection.

The Muse adoptive mother

Ainsel felt and still feels love for The Muse--and could relate to her ever-shifting appearance and nature--but lacked a true bond with her through childhood. It's perhaps due to this that he has attached so heavily to Vesryn.

The Story adoptive parent

Their presence was more steady than that of the flighty Muse, and though Ainsel likes to pretend he's figured everything out on his own, he often thinks back on their advice.
