Black Diamond was the second Diamond ever created, shortly after White Diamond took her place as leader of the gems. Considered to be both an "Off Color" and a technical "Unauthorized Fusion" due to her cracked form, Black Diamond, or Dia, was quickly outcast from Homeworld, left by herself on a planet that had been abandoned half way through colonization due to unknown reasons. The crack in Black Diamond's gem was a result of extreme pressure during her forming, and gives her the appearance of a fusion gem, i.e four arms and four eyes, and allows her to split into two versions of herself, the "Left" and "Right" gems. This form is considered unnatural to her and requires an immense amount of focus and communication to obtain, opposite to most types of fusions, as Left and Right are not their own two gems, but the subsequent personalities of one broken gem.
