when aika was young, he lived in august with his mother. his mother was sick and couldn't afford medication or to stay at a hospital. she passed away when aika was gathering firewood. since he was just a wee little lad, he couldn't process that his mom was actually dead so he continued to live there while his mom was rotting into the floorboards
