Adopted to a family from Freschia in the Duchy of Schlinger. He was raised as the only child until his sister Yumemi was born. His family were Priests who enjoyed using alchemy to aid others, becoming known as "doctors". From a young age, hiro showed his genius and also studied to become a "doctor" like his parents. When he was twenty, his sister was killed in a Fukuro bear attack. Unable to save her, he became overly depressed.
Hiro, initially wanting to travel alone, decided to be Milreaf's partner because she reminded him of his sister. He is over protective of her due to this in part and because he is part of the knight/tank class. Hiro is aware of Milreaf's feelings for him... though he can't separate the idealized image of being a sister from her.
