Being the youngest of the cats in the neighborhood, Gingersnap grew up with the idea that she needed to prove herself. She would hear stories of the colony cats of the forest from the older cats of the neighborhood, that they'd chew her up and eat her bones. When she was less than a year old, she was chased out by the bullies who were trying to get a laugh. Running off is when he found a patrol of warriors from the Silent Woods on their way back from a gathering. The young cat was now even more terrified in the presence of these giants, but they were kind, even if they called her unfamiliar names. They were nothing like the stories his mom told him. That night, he didn't come back home to the neighborhood.

Gingersnap was taken home to their colony and renamed Gladioluskit. Kithood was short in the colony, but he still listened to plenty of stories from Lilypond and grew close with her before he graduated to apprenticeship. Gladioluspaw was slow to learning about the life of a colony cat, causing them to once again be the butt of the joke even in a different setting. Now, it's starting to get to her. A frustration starts to build up in her over her apprenticeship that grows tired of the way she's been treated. He starts to build up stoic walls of stubborness and strength to keep himself from harm. Since then, the dirty looks have died down.

During warrior life, he still felt like he'd be nothing more than a housecat to his colony. Constantly feeling like she had to prove herself, her eyes set on the position of deputy. Her leader, Star Loachtooth, noticed this. For the next year, he would use her eagerness to prove herself worthy as deputy to get her to do things for him, without ever intending to make her deputy.
