They/it. The Critter of Yesteryear, otherwise known as Critter, is said to be an ancient spirit associated with oceans and harbors. It started out as formless, but built itself a body over time from various plants, animal parts/bones, scraps, or whatever happens to wash onto the shore. It is around 4 ft tall at most, and has the ability to run using all legs and swim.
According to legend, they are most frequently seen from mid summer to late autumn. They have the ability to communicate using technology like radios and televisions, flipping through stations/channels to form sentences in whatever language they desire. This is rare though, considering they often don’t like attention from humans; if spotted, they will be quick to vanish, leaving behind only bits of seagrass and the faint smell of dead fish and lavender.
However, some say you can earn their trust by leaving offerings of shells, bones, flowers, sea glass, or old metal trinkets in the early morning, when the fog is still thick and the ocean is still. Those who are lucky enough will either receive gifts in return, or be visited by the Critter itself.
