Dirsteh: Sleepy Summoner

FxjgjI4.png
Summoner of Askr and the Order of Heroes' tactician. A bit flaky, but good at heart. Tends to overwork herself to the point of exhaustion.

Summoner Dirsteh is a self-insert OC for Fire Emblem Heroes. She takes on the role of the playable character, the Summoner. As she is a self-insert, much of her is based off of me and my own experiences.

Before being summoned to Askr from the World of Steel, Dirsteh was an unassuming student studying medicine. Though it seemed like her life was sorted out, she suffered from a lot of self-doubt and shied away from adult responsibilities. Becoming Askr’s Summoner and the Order of Heroes’ tactician turned her life upside-down as she was suddenly thrust with the responsibility of an entire army and a kingdom’s future. Although things were tough early on, the bonds she's formed with many of the Heroes she’s met in Zenith have helped her adjust to her new life and gain some confidence in herself.

Personality

Despite her internal conflicts, Dirsteh usually projects a cheerful, if a bit reserved, personality, as she doesn't want others to worry about her. Many Heroes would describe her as strange (due to her casual nature and...weird sense of humor) but kind-hearted, as she treats everyone in the Order with respect regardless of background and tries to help all of them reach their full potentials. In private, with people she’s comfortable being around, Dirsteh displays a more facetious, sarcastic side that is a far cry from her soft-spoken public persona. Dirsteh can also be a bit of a workaholic, with Heroes sometimes having to drag her away from her work to eat or sleep.

Appearance

Dirsteh is a Filipino American woman in her 20s, though her youthful features have often caused her to be mistaken for a teenager. She is short and chubby, standing at 5'3". She has black, shoulder-length hair and dark brown (almost black) eyes. After the events of Book IV, her eyes have turned gold. Her skin is olive/tan, and she has two moles on her face, one on each cheek.

In terms of fashion, Dirsteh enjoys wearing cute and comfortable clothing, and her style tends to be more modern compared to others' in the Order of Heroes. Her Summoner's coat was customized by Oboro after the original was found to be too large on her. At Dirsteh's request, it was made shorter and a bit more cutesy. It still fits somewhat loosely—she wanted the arm room—so it tends to hang off her shoulders.

Quotes

  • “Heehee.”
  • “Huh? What was that for?”
  • “You don't need to be all formal with me—just ‘Dirsteh’ is OK.”
  • “If you ever summon a knight with hair like moonlight, could you let me know? I really need some merges...
  • “I just cannot live without my phone! Having it on hand is as essential to me as breathing.”
  • “I was NOT ogling people on the training grounds! I was...uh, analyzing their fighting skills! Y-yeah!”
  • “I only got 2 hours of sleep last night, but I am totally, absolutely fine! So don’t you worry about me!”
  • “My real name? I’ll give you a hint: it has the letters ‘K-I-R-A-N’ in it.”

Items & Abilities

Breidablik

CPbPif8.png

The legendary relic of Askr, able to summon Heroes from other worlds. Originally sealed in Vaskrheim, it is used by Anna to summon Dirsteh to Zenith. The relic resonates with Dirsteh soon afterwards, bestowing her with the powers of Askr’s Summoner, which include:

  • summoning Heroes, usually in exchange for Orbs. As Dirsteh’s magical prowess grows, her summoning also improves, as she eventually gains the ability to summon without the use of orbs (i.e. free summons) as well as summoning specific heroes (i.e. “spark” summoning).
  • forging contracts with Heroes (see “The Summoner’s Contract™️”).
  • heightened magical abilities, including prophetic dreams.
  • access to information about her Heroes and the battlefield (see “Dirsteh’s Cellphone”).
  • temporarily opening portals to other worlds.
  • (+ more?)

After Dirsteh is properly trained in wielding magic, she is able to draw out the offensive capabilities of the Breidablik and use it as a weapon. (It’s considered a colorless tome!)

The Summoner's Contract™️

O Hero of another world, heed my call…

Whenever Dirsteh attempts to summon a Hero using Breidablik, her will is sent out to the various worlds to search for Heroes to be summoned. This manifests as Dirsteh’s voice in the Hero’s head asking for their aid, and the Hero can agree or not agree to lend their help. If they reject it, the presence moves on until a Hero is willing to be summoned. If they agree, a contract between Dirsteh and the Hero is created and the Hero is summoned to Zenith. Additionally, Summoner’s Contracts can be formed outside of summoning, such as on the battlefield (i.e. Grand Hero Battles).

Askran and Emblian royalty can also forge contracts with Heroes, but these differ from those forged by the Summoner in that Summoner’s Contracts:

  • are harder to break. While contracts from Askran/Emblian royalty can be broken through defeating the hero, the Summoner’s Contract can only be broken if Dirsteh wills it herself or she dies (...which debatably may be easier than defeating the Hero, but that depends if you can get to her first).
  • grant Heroes semi-immortality. While Heroes can still be felled in battle, they can be revived, completely healed of all injuries, via “re-summoning” with Breidablik. However, they retain the memories of their “death” (and the emotional trauma that comes with it). Because of this, Dirsteh absolutely refuses to let any of her Heroes die and tries to refine her strategies so it never comes to that.
  • allow Heroes to talk telepathically with the Summoner while on the battlefield.
  • allow for (potentially) greater control of Heroes. Dirsteh’s hold on her Heroes is very light, and she only strengthens it to dispel fights among Heroes in the order. (Though she still worries that she’s subconsciously controlling her Heroes and that any positive feelings they have towards her are the result of the contract.)

Dirsteh's Cellphone

IMG_URL

Exactly what it says on the tin. It was brought with Dirsteh when she was summoned to Askr, and due to the magic energy floating around Zenith, it stays fully charged. It also retains many of its normal functions, such as serving as a camera, music player, or notepad; it even still shows the time and weather (somehow). However, it doesn’t get service, so it can’t be used to call home or access the Internet.

After Dirsteh becomes the Summoner, her phone is able to show her the status of the Order of Heroes and puts the combat abilities of her Heroes in a form she can better understand (i.e. stats and skills). On the battlefield, it can also show her a bird’s eye view of the positions of her Heroes and enemies.

Dire Breidablik ("Breidablack")

tOcUUqh.png

The Breidablik from Líf’s world, empowered by Angrboða’s Heart through the Heart’s Rite. When wielded by Dirsteh, it has the power to kill the unkillable (row row fight the power). If not wielded by her, using it has some…side effects.

Relationships

n1PXIGT.png
Silas: Loyal Knight [ s-support ]

Silas is Dirsteh's romantic S-Support! Initially he was drawn to Dirsteh due to her resemblance to the Corrin from his world, but both of them realized how similar they were to each other—namely their lack of confidence in themselves after being summoned to Askr. He comes to admire her compassion and willingness to help anyone, and she adores his hard-working attitude and loyalty (and bedhead). The two are very sweet and loving towards each other, though they tend to save openly romantic gestures for when they’re alone due to Dirsteh’s reserved nature when it comes to romance. They have a very trusting relationship and are confident in the other’s abilities; they’re also very protective of one another and would take a bullet (so to speak) for each other.

qWNMysP.png

(Brave) Claude is Dirsteh's platonic S-Support! The lore I have for these two is uh. Kinda convoluted but in summary: pre-timeskip Claude is summoned to Askr and grows close with Dirsteh. As they bond, she shows him that he can (and should) reach out and trust other people because bonds give us strength!!!! Because Multiverse™️, after peace is won for Askr, at least 1 (one) Claude that bonds with Dirsteh is sent back to Fódlan with this new mindset and eventually becomes King of Almyra. During his time as king, he hears Dirsteh’s voice once again asking for his aid in Askr and immediately jumps at the chance to see his old friend again (or at least one version of her). So they're very close! Claude comes to respect Dirsteh’s tactics, despite her not being formally trained, as she prioritizes the well-being of her Heroes. Dirsteh similarly trusts Claude and his schemes, and usually confides in him for tactical advice. The two are also playful with each other; they will (lovingly) take the piss out of the other if given the opportunity. Nevertheless they both deeply care for one another and trust each other implicitly!

"i don't know how i could live on without you dirsteh" "um...thanks?" (TBA)

Sharena was the first person Dirsteh really bonded with in Zenith! Dirsteh vibed with her kind and peppy personality, and how she treated her more as a friend than as the “Almighty Summoner.” Sharena’s kindness served as a comfort to Dirsteh early on, especially after being summoned to a strange new world and suddenly becoming the tactician of an army.

55HAVeS.png

Reinhardt is one of Dirsteh’s close confidants who thinks of her like a sister. He highly respects her strategic skills, even if she doesn’t; he's quick to set her straight whenever she gets a bit too self-deprecating. Dirsteh finds Reinhardt to be very reliable, both on and off the battlefield, and often goes to him for advice. Reinhardt also serves as one of Dirsteh's retainers and her main magic tutor.
