Backstory

I had an idea for this guy for a while-- I started a comic and never finished it, I added some comic fragments in the images! 

Jaeger is a grim reaper, one of many, and the territory he's given to collect souls from is a forest. He just collects souls of animals because there's no people around. He hates his job. He knows he's not good enough to reap human souls, and he wants to do his job well, (it is an important job after all,) but Jaeger can‘t help feeling like he is meant for something different.

Jaeger gets lonely, even though he has his worm hounds to keep him company. Each reaper has a familiar that helps them track down souls. Jaeger was given an adult worm hound, Annabelle, who was accidentally sliced in half by his scythe. Her two halves grew back into the worm pups, named Anna and Belle. As Annabelle was halved, so were her wits, split between the two new pups. The duo is dimwitted but well-meaning, and they are deeply loyal and loving of their owner, and act as the happy-go-lucky antithesis to Jaeger's low self esteem. 

One day Jaeger's monotonous soul-gathering routine is broken, when a lone human arrives in the forest and foolishly attempts to climb a great apple tree. The stranger slips on a branch and plummets to his would-be death-- that is, if the grim reaper himself hadn't caught the human in his arms. Jaeger accidentally does the exact OPPOSITE of his job and saves the stranger's life. 

By doing this, things are set out of balance. Jaeger must collect a soul, or the Bureau of Mortal Affairs will come knocking at his door. It might be easier to collect the man's soul if Jaeger didn't instantly fall in love with the handsome young dude in the first moment he laid eyesockets on him. Through his interactions with this new person, Jaeger ends up growing a soul of his own...
