Kindle lives in some mystical snowy mountains that are rather remote and rugged, though travelers do occasionally come through.
She grew up in the mountains, but was separated from her mother during a massive blizzard when she was 16 (going with human equivalent ages here). She never found her mother again, and presumed that she died in some way during the blizzard. Luckily, her mother had taught her well in the ways of the mountains, and Kindle was able to survive on her own as she finished out her childhood. She still returned every day to the cave she had called home growing up, as it brought her comfort despite her mother no longer being there. It was her refuge.
Because of her loss and her quickly growing skills in mountaineering and navigation, she decided to dedicate her life to helping weary or lost travelers who came through the mountains. She would rescue them if needed, let them shelter in her cave, and direct them to where they were trying to go once they were better.
