Profile

Alistair is a Pooka, one of a race of cursed rabbit-like creatures from the video game Odin Sphere. Driven by his desire to break the Pooka curse, Alistair makes a living as a mercenary in the world of Erion.

Personality
Alistair strongly dislikes his current form, but has grown accustomed to it and accepts his status as a Pooka. He can't stand being called a rabbit or a bunny, and will curtly correct anyone who does so. In Erion, Pooka are not well-regarded by the other races, so Alistair has experienced his fair share of discrimination. He has a massive chip on his shoulder as a result, and is quick to anger when interacting with anyone who looks down on him. Though he tries to act polite and keep his anger in check, especially if there's a job on the line, sometimes it spills out anyway. He vastly prefers the company of other Pooka because they share the same struggle, and is notably calmer around them.

Alistair believes it's only a matter of time before the Pooka succeed in gathering all the Valentinian coins needed to break the curse, and as such is extremely dedicated to the cause. He's so driven that he spends much of  his time working, usually by doing odd jobs as a mercenary-for-hire. He does have his scruples and won't take just any job... unless the payout is sizable enough to persuade him. Even so, not many are willing to hire a Pooka to do the job of a knight, much to Alistair's chagrin. Much of his actual time working is spent gathering herbs and firewood or hunting down wild animals, tasks that he sees as beneath him.

Alistair has a dream of starting a family and living a quiet, happy life with his wife, Cadence, a dream that can only be realized if they're no longer Pooka. Cadence is his rock, and coming home to be with her after a long period of work helps give him the strength to work again. Being apart from Cadence for too long gives Alistair intense anxiety, since he worries so much about her well-being, even though he knows she's more than capable of taking care of herself.

History
Alistair grew up in the prosperous kingdom of Valentine, home to the powerful magic furnace known as the Crystallization Cauldron. The son of a mechanical engineer and a concert violinist, his youth was spent in happiness and comfort, and he wanted for nothing. Alistair idolized his father, and occasionally tagged along with him to his worksite, where he witnessed the construction of incredible magical marvels. During his school years he met a girl named Cadence, and they gradually became friends and later lovers. In his late teens Alistair's parents had a second child, a daughter named Priscilla. As he grew to adulthood Alistair was hoping to start a career in engineering and construction like his father, and even proposed to Cadence.

Alistair's happy life was shattered when war broke out between Valentine and Ragnanival, the kingdom of valkyries ruled by Demon Lord Odin, over control of the Crystallization Cauldron. King Valentine's once peaceful and kind rule took a sudden shift towards tyranny and violence, and all of Valentine's resources were poured into this bitter war. Alistair's father was conscripted into military service and forced to create weapons of war; an unfortunate accident with one such weapon ultimately led to his father's death. Alistair's mother fled the country with Priscilla and traveled to the human kingdom of Titania. As for Alistair, he was also conscripted into the military, and could not leave as deserters were executed on sight. During his time in the military Alistair learned swordplay and found that it came naturally to him. Cadence also enlisted in the military as a field medic, much to Alistair's dismay.

The war raged on for a time, and despite several close calls Alistair somehow managed to stay alive throughout it all. The war was turning in Valentine's favor thanks to the kingdom's advanced weaponry and machinery, and the end seemed to be in sight at long last. Then, without seemingly any explanation, the Cauldron exploded. The entire kingdom of Valentine was engulfed in a massive blast of magic and completely destroyed. The Valentinian army was decimated, with Alistair being one of the lucky who weren't killed in the blast. Instead he was transformed into a small rabbit-like creature. He soon found other survivors, including Cadence, and discovered that they had all been similarly transformed. Eventually an explanation was uncovered: in an attempt to win the war, King Valentine activated the Crystallization Cauldron, only for it to backfire and unleash its full power on Valentine. The war was over, and they had lost their king, their country, and their humanity.
