Yang died long ago. Only minutes after his brother. But time travels differently in the underworld. He made a similar contract as his brother to serve as a soul hunter till he could be reunited with his family. He would soon forget his orginal plan, getting an offer from a god like creature to serve under him instead. Yang was taken into the Kogawa family and trained to protect their heir. Yang would become rather close to Kie. One could say they were more than friends.
