CHILDHOOD

Gudrun (Goodie) was born the 4th child to Gerhardus and Gia Emberbraid, King and Queen of the Giranor and the Ember Vales. There are 8 children in the direct Emberbraid family: Goen, Giel, and Gelda are the three oldest and most likely to inherit the throne, then Gudrun, Gjisbert, and Gidea are triplets (Goodie was technically born first, then Gjisbert, then Gidea, but the running family joke is that the midwife lost track of who’s who since they were identical at birth so who knows who is actually oldest after Goodie). Gillie was born a few years after the triplets, and Gizelda was born last, many years later.

Goodie was raised by her brother Giel for the most part, as her parents were too busy with the eldest children and running the kingdom to have much time for the kids least likely to inherit the throne. Goodie in turn helped raise Gizelda when she was born, for the same reasons she was raised by Giel.

YOUNG ADULTHOOD

Goodie fought in the Ruby Wars in command of a small band of skirmishers called the Iron 5. Together they harassed enimy supply lines, stormed outposts, and evacuated refugees. The iron 5 fell when faced with the enemy general at the battle of Diamond Falls, and Goodie was the only one to survive. She managed to kill the general but was gravely injured in the process, as he caved in her breastplate during the fight. This was the first time she felt Hanseath's favor.

As a reward, Goodie was given a bodyguard by the name of Rozalin Hillbrand, who was a cousin of one of the refugees Goodie saved at Diamond Falls. At first Goodie resented Roz's presence, as she thought having a bodyguard made her seem weak, but as the years passed, Goodie and Roz grew closer until eventualy they entered into a relationship! Though they loved each other deeply, it is illegal for a non-royal to be in a relationship with a princess, so they kept their love secret for years in order to protect Roz.

Things changed when Goodie's elder brother and father figure Giel was murdered. For a short time Goodie was suspected as the killer, and after she was cleared, greif and rage drove her to dive into the battle for the crown against her eldest brother and sister, Goen and Gelda. This quiet battle raged for several years, but it was Roz who payed the price. Though she stayed loyal to Goodie throughout, her and Goodie's relationship was exposed to the king in retaliation by one of the older siblings. Roz was forced to leave Giranor on pain of death, and begged Goodie to come with her and leave the bloody business of her family behind. Goodie tentatively agreed, but when the time came to actually leave, got distracted by an opportunity to sabotage her older sister and missed the rendezvous with Roz by mere minutes.

RECENT PAST

Goodie finally got the guts to leave the Ember City a few years after her youngest sister Gizelda was born. Though she had taken great pride in raising the young girl, the stress and darkness of her family was finally getting to her. After making sure Gizelda was taken care of, Goodie at last set out for the surface to search for Roz.

After a breif stop in Roz's hometown of Ironend, Goodie began her trek east towards the border. Before she could cross it however, she was attacked by several assassins. Though she managed to finish them off, she was seriously injured and only survived by the grace of Hanseath, who once again reached out to her and lent her his strength. Though she survived her injuries, the poisoned dagger she was struck with immobilized her for several months and continues to impare some of the movement in her right arm. She reached out to Hanseath again, promising her devotion if he would heal her, and her wish was granted! She now fights in his name wherever she goes, and channels her rage like never before.
