Years in the future, after the fall of the Citadel and reformation of Sunslammer, Dawnbright and friends have moved on and started lives of their own. Unbeknownst to them, Dryska Aranea is still alive, and has spent years plotting vengeance. She enacts it by unleashing a spell which blights unicorns and prevents them from using magic. From Princess Dawnbright, Dawnbreaker awakens and flees, going to find Dryska.
While Dryska wastes time and energy plotting revenge on Dawnbright's friends and family, Dawnbreaker acts as her loyal lackey; a ploy to, in turn, wrap Dryska around her own hoof. Dawnbreaker's plans go further than hurting ponies who have wronged her; she intends to blight the world itself, shut out the celestial bodies and thrust the planet into eternal, silent darkness. Dawnbright's daughter, Glitter Bomb, and her long lost father Glory Spiral, along with a ragtag crew of friends, must put an end to Dawnbreaker's plans.
