Gyrenzveldjin, known as Gyren, is a member of the Archaenum. His primary role is the survey and initial reconnaissance of planets prior to large force arrival.

Originally, Gyren studied under Antares, but during the Great Siege was separated from his mentor during the initial assault on the Capital. Shortly after his capture, Gyren made contact with an undercover member of the Archaenum and underwent pilot training. He was then selected as one of the test pilots for the MQuaT Program.

The MQuaT Program, or Macroscopic Quantum Tunnelling Program, is one of the numerous ongoing projects that the Archaenum have dedicated considerable resources to and are focusing on. The MQuaT Program has the ultimate goal of being able to phase a biological transport craft through matter, so that certain inaccessible regions of space can be explored.

After multiple failed unmanned test flights, the Lead Researcher for the project caved into constant requests from Gyren to manually fly the research craft. During the test flight, an undetected rift (a type of spacetime anomaly) passed through the main drive, accelerating the local time flow in such a manner that the cooling system was unable to keep up with the primary reaction. Sensing a problem, Gyren jettisoned the main drive and decoupled the command module from the craft. Within seconds, the main drive detonated. (This had multiple effects on the local system which will be noted elsewhere.) Due to a collision with a piece of debris from the craft, the command module fell into a suborbital trjectory.

Following the crash, Gyren eventually made his way back to Rostnia, learning how to sense and use the rifts. Gyren appears later in the Rostnian storyline and does not wear a mask according to Archaenum tradition.

Due to the nature of the crystal (there is only 1), it can be in multiple places at the same time (As illustrated in the picture) and/or in multiple times at the same place.  Using this crystal, Gyren is able to jump back along a timeline to try and change the course of events.  However, this often causes more problems than it solves.
