Riktik

A well-meaning, amiable fellow. Inquisitive, sentimental, and a protective people-pleaser to those he's - come to consider allies and friends. A caring, older brother sort. He does have a fondness for more existential topics of discussion, and a morbid tendency to drift the conversation towards death, which puts some folks off, but he means well. Much of the time he comes across as being quite calm and placid, but - this appears to be empathy fatigue more than anything else. He's prone to spiraling into a dissociative state quite easily, as this exhausted insect has worn himself mentally threadbare with all the things he's seen in a short period of time, even before entering the facility. Difficult to bring to anger, but a skilled warrior if you finally do. He misses his adventuring team and family horribly, and expresses this often.

Possession resembles a ghostly thri-kreen that uses him as armor in combat. Unable to speak but easy to agitate by theft of Riktik's possessions with sentimental value. Though unwelcomed by Riktik, it seems more primal than malicious.


Design Notes

  • Always has his gythka (polewarm weapon) with him.
  • Four arms, four claws on each hand.
  • When in combat, three blue wisps circle him, even when not possessed.
  • The red necklace, shawl, flower pin, and spiral broach are the most important small trinkets to include.
  • The multicolored glow while possessed comes from between his chitin plates
  • While possessed, dark mushrooms sprout from him and his eyes become pale, clouded, and corpse-like.

Possession

  • Aggresses quickly if one of Riktik's sentimental trinkets is taken. This includes the shawl, gythka, broach, flower pin, red wire necklace, and blue ring.
  • Also aggresses if Riktik is pushed to the point of true anger, but this has proven remarkably difficult due to a combination of good-naturedness and the horrors-induced fatigue.80346196_jTxVJiMEGjhoyGE.png
  • Entity also manifests when Riktik attempts to enter purgatory, or dwells without activities too long in his own dissociative state. Provide with constant activities available for this reason.
  • Majority of Riktik's combat abilities are his own, but the possession offers a few boosts. Most immediately noticeable is that his physical touch and weapons gradually drain strength.
  • The entity, while active, can keep his body moving after it should have grown exhausted. Riktik pays the price for this overuse of his body when it craters.
  • Often wanders with a mild curiosity about its surroundings when separated from Riktik's body. Very fragile in this state, as it cannot rapidly heal and takes ordinary damage without Riktik's body. On its own, this entity is far from the worst threat in the facility. Much of its danger comes from its use of Riktik's body.
  • Because of Riktik's toughness, when the possession is using him in combat, those who can deal mental damage are preferred, so they can bypass Riktik's defenses and directly target the entity. When it is worn down, it will give up control of Riktik.
  • Riktik remains vaguely aware of what happened while it possesses his body, as if listening and seeing things happening above him from underwater.
  • He remains less aware of what happened when it returns after wandering around on its own. The recollection Riktik gets from it are very vague and dreamlike in their quality, and unless he makes an active effort to remember, they fade easily.

TRIVIA

  • Riktik's cloak is a displacement cloak. Without putting in the effort to focus, the shifting, displaced form makes it a half/half shot at whether you'll even target him properly. Keep your wits about you in combat.
  • Riktik himself, when engaged in combat, possessed or not, takes about half the damage he realistically should from attacks. This excludes psionic attacks.
  • Heals quickly, an ability acquired through a lot of near-death experiences
  • Doesn't sleep! Rests periodically in a meditative-like state, sitting down most of the time, but remains aware of his surroundings.
  • Every item he carries has a story behind it. He is a talkative fellow, and willing to share if you ask. He is far from cagey.
  • Has a good list of hobbies he enjoys! He can turn flint, obsidian, stone, etc into the primary pair of weapons from his culture; enjoys reading, sparring, and also hunting, though he hasn't had the opportunity to do so due to the nature of the area.
  • Able to communicate psionically, but it is one-way unless the other person can also communicate that way. Tries to ask first, since speaking into someone's mind has, historically, unsettled people without warning.

The second person Riktik met upon entering the facility. Surgeon had a level of calm competence that appealed well to Riktik's then-distant state of mind, and endured his many questions and sharing about the world he came from. Presently, the staff member Riktik respects the most, despite how much he hates this entire situation.


Nervous Staff ♥♥♥♡♡
The first person Riktik met at the facility, and the most petrified. For what reason, Riktik never did find out, but it certainly didn't make it too easy to consider this place as good at all. He's not upset at Lance, but his anxious energy feeds into Riktik's own that he's trying very hard to suppress.

Small Beasts ♥♥♥♡♡
A strange malleable creature(s?) that multiple and engage in mitosis. Riktik's really not sure what they are, and at the time was a little too dazed and out of it to bother asking. But they are perplexing. Gave them the gold coins he had in his pockets, since they were interested and he had no use for them. Might make up for trying to crush them while possessed to get his flower pin back.


World-Hopping Friend ♥♥♥♥♡
A faun who's remarkably understanding and accommodating, and was very willing to indulge him in his more morbid topics of conversation, even bringing her own to the table. He doesn't some of the social limits and annoyances she has yet, but is listening. She humored him by taking him to a plains biome with her possession, granting him much-needed reprieve from the sterile enclosure of the facility, the chance to hunt and run and relax in a place a little more familiar, and even the tasks required to get out were a delightful rewarding experience. She gave him her room number (331) and the offer to go on a trip like that again sometime.

Willard Deering

Trapped Soul ♥♥♥♡♡
Riktik believes Willard to be the spirit of a dead man trapped in his desecrated corpse. It's difficult to have an opinion on whoever Willard is as an actual person, because the persona it seems forced to maintain could be well different from anything Willard actually is. Regardless, Riktik doesn't believe this horrible limbo is deserved for just about anyone. He's trying to find someone who knows how to help set Willard free from this cursed state, and hates that he can't step into purgatory to solve this simply and cleanly. This time he will succeed.
