Backstory:

Little does this amnesiac knows, she was once a mermaid who lived in the ocean with her family. Though Marlene loved the sea and all that it brought, she also was fascinated by Olive Town, with its people and animals. Her curiosity started from a distance, but gradually it drew her closer and closer to see what the town had to bring! such sights ranged from children playing, adults working hard... and a young man with a guitar. Marlene was closest with the latter, being that this man would travel some ways out to the ocean with his own family. Marlene wanted so much to connect with any of them, but she was awfully shy, only managing to befriend a stray black cat.

One day Marlene grew gravely sick, and after many attempts of curing her, it forced her family consider the final resort; to seek out the Sea Witch. After much pleading with the her, she proposed a deal to heal and watch over Marlene... on the condition that she never return back to them, to live instead as a human. Having time tick against them, they reluctantly agreed, but wanted to share one last moment with their fry. After many tears and words were exchanged, Marlene asked that she be sent to Olive Town, and her family honored that wish. Before parting, they gave her a necklace to keep a piece of them with her, a necklace that Marlene still keeps to this day.
