A young woman who had a flourishing and prosperous future, only for it to be ruined in a moment of tragedy and greed. Hinami was a Pokémon hunter who led a life full of mystery and hostility. To some people, she was a weapon for them to use. To others, she was a force to flee from. Her heart was encapsulated in flames, fueled by desire and despair. Her youth unraveled to reveal this one truth: she was meant to burn. To accompany Hinami on her endeavors, she had a team of five Pokémon: Salamence, Leafeon, Greninja, Talonflame, and Beedrill.

Personality

Hinami was a bold person. She kept to herself for the most part, but she approached others who piqued her interest. Hinami had the tendency to match her acquaintances’ behaviors, becoming more of a mirror than her own person. It was all an act to let the other person know their own flaws and strengths. If Hinami had a penchant for someone, she would drop the game of mirroring someone and let her own personality shine. Most people found her insufferable and annoying, while a handful of individuals thought she was endearing in her own way.

Like her parents, she was supportive. Unlike her parents, she was supportive only when she wanted to be. She gave optimistic compliments to those she cared about, all the while keeping those statements realistic. She didn’t fancy the idea of lying to raise someone’s ego. The idea of letting someone know that she cared was adorable, yet there were few people she did love. Hinami made it a need to back up her words with actions, for actions spoke louder than words. Despite this, Hinami preferred to show appreciation through speech instead of action.

She was aware of her obstinacy when it came to certain topics. Hinami was persistent when she wanted something to go her way. She would demand what someone said if he or she said something in a hushed tone. More often than not, Hinami had her way. She did this through reason and determination, along with constant whining and pestering. The young woman didn’t think her stubbornness was an extreme fault. It was human to have a flaw. She thought this characteristic was normal, perhaps even healthy.

Hinami sometimes fell into strange mood changes. Cockiness was her default expression. Still, the young woman suffered through heavy waves of depression and fury. Anger slammed into her in short, sudden bursts. This emotion died off as soon as it came. Sadness was a different story. She seldom revealed this feeling to others, instead choosing to bottle it inside. When it became too much, Hinami would channel her energy in the training grounds where she would improve her skills. Depression came in a gradual flow and left the same way. Little did she experience feelings of incompetence and stress. She was confident enough to know that things did get better.

She had a poor sense of justice. Her views were biased, sans a few exceptions. Hinami chose what was right based on her morals and rarely went with what she perceived as wrong decisions. Consequences didn’t frighten Hinami, for they fueled her to do things that nobody in the right, sane mind would do. She demonstrated acts of cheating and “dirty tricks.” If she found out someone was doing something like that, she would stoop to that person’s level (or worse). Instead of waiting to let fate decide what to do with wrongdoers, she became the epitome of karma. Being in the Hunters Association sharpened her sense of judgment, allowing her to become more mature in the process.

Hinami was knowledgeable in the anatomy and physiology of Pokémon. Since her training with the Hunters Association, she used her techniques to her advantage. Striking a blow or two to a Pokémon was the start of demise for the poor creature. She had the tendency to deal more damage with fewer hits to a Pokémon, thinking that it would be a waste of time to let a Pokémon fall into a slow, painful death. Her reflexes from gymnastics and so-called “hunches” in figuring out weak points were proof that she knew what she was doing to a Pokémon while on a mission. Her skills were also used for self-defense. When provoked, she showed no mercy and did what was necessary to bring her foe down.

Hinami treasured her family more than anything. She cared for her parents and little brother, despite her parents’ disapproval of her recent plan to achieve financial stability. She maintained a healthy relationship with Kintarou, providing him funds as “play money.” The redhead didn’t plan to return home permanently, but she fancied the thought of returning home and making amends with her parents. After entering the hunting profession, Hinami had a new family to care for. The dynamic between her and the rest of the hunters was far different from her relationship with her immediate family, but she grew used to the hunters’ eccentric tics and jarring personalities.

She had somewhat high standards for herself. Hinami wanted to become the best that she could be. She praised and treated herself to an excess, letting other people punish her when they deem it a fight. It was a healthy balance, or so she cared to believe. She saw that others were capable of reaching to the top as well. The young woman urged others through competition, acting as the rival to someone’s hero.

History

Hinami Yamamoto was the eldest child of Haruyoshi and Ruri Yamamoto, a happy couple who settled in Rustboro City located in western Hoenn. Haruyoshi was a fisherman while Ruri was a chef, the two providing enough money to help raise their daughter. In her early years, Hinami’s parents spent their time off from work to take care of the child.

During her youth, Hinami was never alone. Until the age of two, her parents were always in her company. A little after she first began to form sentences, a new member of the Yamamoto family appeared. Ruri gave birth to a boy named Kintarou with green eyes like Hinami. He had a lighter shade of brown hair, resembling more of Haruyoshi’s hair color. Hinami took care of his little brother the best she could. Both of the Yamamoto children’s early years were prosperous.

All was well in the Yamamoto household. That was, until Kintarou suffered an accident. During a field trip, rocks prone to falling rolled down and crushed Kintarou’s legs. The young boy went to the emergency room. Hinami failed to attend school for two weeks because she refused to leave her brother. After the family received news about Kintarou’s condition, shock waved over them. Kintarou would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. Hinami vowed to help Kintarou through this troublesome time.

It took awhile for everyone in the family to adjust. Haruyoshi and Ruri continued to support the family the best they could. Hinami spent more time with her brother than with her friends. During a period in high school, she lost the majority of her friends. This led to her suffering in silence. Despite this, Hinami and Kintarou’s relationship grew stronger and they were inseparable. After the end of the school year, Hinami was back to her regular self. She realized that she didn’t need friends to make her life worthwhile and fulfilling; all she needed was Kintarou.

Throughout the next couple years, Hinami worked hard on her studies. She favored science-related subjects, such as the biology of Pokémon. In her spare time, she would attend gymnastics at regular intervals. Her brother would support her at tournaments and some practice sessions, along with her parents. With each passing week, Hinami was doing better in her training and soon enough she was at the top of her class.

At the age of 17, Hinami graduated from high school and decided that she didn’t want Kintarou to continue suffering. Instead of pursuing the dream of becoming a Pokémon Professor due to her affinity for science, Hinami entered the Hunters Association and became the subordinate of a woman called Estelle, better known as “Lady Relentless.” Under the older woman’s guidance, Hinami became a weapon.

After telling her parents that she found a job, giving little to no details about her sinful occupation, Hinami left her parents’ home to find an apartment in Slateport City. Being a part of the Hunters Association prompted her to relocate every now and then. However, it didn’t take long for her family to find out what she was doing. While Haruyoshi was working at Slateport, he noticed his daughter with Estelle fighting off a horde of Sharpedo. He called out to Hinami, but she didn’t talk to him until after the hunt was completed. It was then that Haruyoshi learned about Hinami’s new job.

Haruyoshi and Ruri were opposed to Hinami’s title of a hunter, believing that she would get harmed or killed. They insisted that she quit, but Hinami was adamant to keep the occupation because she wanted to provide the funds for Kintarou to have surgery so he could walk again. After an argument with her parents, Hinami told Estelle that she wanted to roam the other regions. Hoenn was becoming too familiar for her, and she wanted something new.

For the next two years, Hinami hopped from region to region with Estelle and other members of the Hunters Association. She had been to Kanto, Johto, Sinnoh, and Alola; however, she frequented Kanto and Johto due to the rare Pokémon there. Her interest piqued when hearing stories of Mewtwo, striving to witness the Pokémon in all its brutality and beauty. Estelle made a contract with Giovanni to search for Mewtwo, which was an opportunity ripe for the taking. Not long after did Estelle disappear without a trace. It was at this moment that Hinami disbanded from the Hunters Association to join Team Rocket.

As of late, Hinami resided in Kanto under the instructions of Giovanni. Casted aside as the outsider, the poacher didn’t mesh well with the other members. Rather than becoming acquainted with Team Rocket, she satiated her loneliness through Kanto’s residents.

Relationships

Daniel Saito [ acquaintance ]

The new daycare owner of Kanto whom Hinami thought was nothing but a waste of space. After several visits, Hinami shifted her view of Daniel. No longer a useless human but a valuable asset. When Hinami obtained an Egg from Daniel that hatched into a Shiny Weedle, she spent more time at the daycare. On rare occasions, Hinami assisted Daniel during the night shift.

Bunny Muro [ enemy ]

A stranger who became Hinami’s source of fury. Bunny’s dainty appearance became the driving force on why Hinami chose the other woman as her target. Each interaction they had resulted in both parties to come out with bruises and cuts. There seemed to be no stopping when these two crossed paths.

Kintarou Yamamoto [ sibling ]

The hunter’s younger brother whom she dedicated her current lifestyle to. Not many people know about Kintarou’s existence, but those who do know that Hinami’s faith was unwavering. She held Kintarou close to her heart, and she was sure he was love incarnate. He was everything to her; nothing more, nothing less.
