ABOUT: A roustabout hailing from Alaska. She worked as a deckhand for Mermaid Fish Co.'s Juneau branch before transferring to Los Angeles, taking her younger brother Caleb with her and away from their abusive father. She scrounged up enough cash to rent a run-down apartment off the beaten path, where she and her brother could live in relative comfort. Velvet works multiple jobs to support her small family, often taking her brother with her on long shifts. She is extremely protective of him and is careful letting him anywhere near Mermaid, considering the types that hang around there.

She mostly works as a laborer due to her overwhelming strength and size, but she is also a skilled woodworker who will restore the odd cabinet for a quick buck or create entirely new carvings out of driftwood. Another of her jobs includes a water safety instructor at the local YMCA, where she teaches occasional lessons.
