One might assume that Bora is among the oldest gods, given his status as a smilodon, a species long-since lost to the passage of time. This is... not quite correct. There are those who are older than even he, though they may not always act like it. Case in point: Mintovo.

Mintovo was appointed his position as God of Ice some time before Bora even came into the picture. If you were to ask you how long he's been in this role, he'd probably just laugh and reply, "Hell if I know any more! Too long, I'll tell you that much!" In fact, Mintovo was Bora's own teacher, when he was taken in as a disciple - He was the one who granted the smilodon his own powers over ice, and trained him in their use, though the two took rather different paths both in terms of role and personalities from there.

So, then, you might assume that, given his even greater age, Mintovo must take his job seriously. To which I (and the vast majority of the deities around him) must say: Pff, not a chance.

Mintovo is much more cheerful, friendly, and easygoing than his mentee, and much more than one might expect from a god of his domain. He's not especially interested in taking charge or acting on his role, or even in training the other disciples - Bora was enough of a pain in the behind for him, as he so eloquently puts it. Rather, when given the chance, he prefers to just hang around doing not much of import... or, when the opportunity strikes, heading to the mortal realms to see some new faces and pester the ones living there, for a change.

Honestly, the fact that Mintovo has not yet been removed from his position among the deities is nothing short of a miracle. But he brings some levity to the group, so perhaps he's being kept around for a reason.

Or maybe it'd just be too much work to replace him. Who's to say?

Trivia

  • Mintovo once, on a visit to the mortal realms, heard of an herb called mint. He took an interest in it, sharing its name with his and all, and decided to try it. Despite enjoying the flavor, it made him ill, and once he recovered, he swore he would never touch the stuff again. He actually holds some resentment towards the plant, which the other gods find quite amusing.
  • Mintovo is one of a handful of gods who doesn't hold any ill will towards Nahia, though he isn't especially invested in her, either. When she's occasionally asked him to grant her the powers she seeks, he's just shrugged and said, "Not my department, go ask bookworm about it." She learned pretty quickly that Mintovo would be of little help in that regard, and no longer asks him for things in general.
