Basil Pine

Basil was born as the oldest in a wealthy family of four, his parents living on both old and new money status but still lived by a lot of old tradition and customs in their family. Being the oldest one in his family, he was expected to become the head of his family and eventually take over their successful company when he became of age. Due to this, his parents had started his education once he was able to walk and talk, the lessons ranging from etiquette to musical lessons when he wasn’t present in his private schooling.

However, as Basil grew and learned everything that his parents wanted him to learn, it meant that he spent most of his time away from socializing with his fellow peers and instead with older adults twice his age. Considering he spent most of his time in the library or the study room cramming away in his studies, he became more comfortable being on his own in books and isolated from others. When he was forced away from his library, however, he found that the people around him to be very fake. This was because the folks around him liked to badmouth and gossip about their supposed friends and family, and were very snobbish towards those who weren’t in their social circle or with their status in wealth. Due to this, and this becoming his primary circle of people that he has to associate with, Basil had quickly loathed mingling with people at an early age. This only grew as the years went by.

Shortly before he graduated from high school and entered into an elite private college, where he would be studying both medicine and business to help him take over his parents company, his parents granted him a gift. A shiny cutiefly, despite it being a ‘weak’ pokemon, his parents had searched for the first shiny they could buy off from the market, as they considered that shiny pokemon were signs of good wealth and fortune to come. Needless to say, he didn’t like his gift in the beginning--if people were two-faced, then pokemon were the same….right? Either way, he and Honey didn’t get along at first--she was always interrupting his studies by flying in his face and making a mess of things, she was more of a nuisance than anything. It wasn’t until she accidentally got injured by a book falling on her and damaging her wing that Basil started to really care more about the tiny fairy, and help nurse her back to health. He found that the modern medicine that he was using, however, wasn’t effective in healing her. So he had to go down a different route, and after many trials and errors, found that flowers and other herbs were more effective in healing her back to perfect health. Though, this was a bit strange--why did that affect her negatively before she took the plant medicine, was it something in the pollen or something?

Afterwards, once he and Honey made their way to the elite private college in Galar, he decided to try other courses in his education. He began taking courses involving herbs and plants, and it wasn’t long until he gained a genuine interest in the subject and even joined the gardening club. It was there that he began to notice the interest Honey had with plants. Curious, he began to research why she was so interested in them. Besides the obvious of Cutieflys, it turned out the plants she was attracted to were ones that helped fairy types in both their physical health and with their powers. Curious even more, he began taking more courses to learn more about them and began a fasication in herbal medicine. Who would have thought they were more effective and healthier than modern medicine?

By the time he graduated from college with a Phd in herbal medicine, he decided to take his own path and told his parents that he had no desire to take over his parents company and even with modern medicine. Instead, he wanted to be a herbalist doctor for pokemon, inspired by his first pokemon. His parents and himself argued, and a fight broke out which led to Basil leaving the family on his own terms. He then moved out of Galar and to the Satera Region where he made his living at Fleurbost and became a herbalist doctor for pokemon. He has lived there for the past half of decade and despite his isolation in residence, he has used this to house injured pokemon until they were ready to reenter the wild. It was here that he met his second pokemon shortly after his move, a hattrem named Rosemary and to which Honey has evolved into her final stage of evolution. Regardless, no matter how happy he is with his lifestyle he has now, he still hates to leave his residence for long and talk to other people, the young man rather be in the presence of pokemon instead.
