Overview
"I am the underdog, I'll try not to let you down,
but I'm just a kid who didn't learn how to feel.
I'm just the Bad News Bears,
you want me to win?"
Tealight is a bit of a tryhard, someone who is very perceptive of all the cats around her and grew up knowing many cats were waiting for her to eventually snap. Sensitive and a bit of a crybaby, she doesn't take to any teasing too well unless she intimately knows the cat joking around, but she loves very openly. Tealight attaches herself to others easily when they grant her even a crumb of affection, clinging to those in her life that have granted her repeat kindness and showing a deep well of loyalty that sits inside her chest. She is ever-patient with others, perhaps more than she should be, struggling to set proper boundaries from time to time. But this patience is what helped her grow as close as she did to her mentor, so it's not without its benefits. Even if some of her clanmates are still distant, she tries to meet them with kindness whenever possible to break through the ice.
Deeply insecure, she worries a lot about her size and strength, as one rough play session with her nursery helpers left Jitterbug a bit hurt and sent guards rushing in to take him to Tallstep. That, alongside harsh judgement from cats like Cloudheart and Rosepath, has been a difficult thing to overcome, with her taking a long while to reach the day where she was even comfortable sparring and hunting properly. She apologizes almost habitually sometimes, always examining cats' reactions to what she does and doing her best to minimize her presence when she's able. It takes a lot of effort and the presence of loved ones for Tealight to fully come out of her shell, but when she does she's the brightest and bounciest cat in the room.
And, despite everything, she became a CliffClan warrior, a guard, a cat trusted by her clan. She did not become a monster. She became an artist, a linguist, a cat trusted by her leader to help look after her kittens. Guilt over the actions of her mother and older brother weighs on her like a stone, leaving her tongue-tied whenever anything related to them comes up, but most cats aren't so cruel. Tealight understands why they're dead, though she aches to know if there might have been another way to prevent it. Easier to focus on the present, to make sure nothing like that ever happens again.

Personality (Key: +positive, -Negative, *Neutral,^Hidden)
Selfless +
Willing to lend someone a paw even at the expense of her own fun or stability, Tealight looks out for others as best she can, even if it's something small. Still, it comes up in bigger gestures when she can manage it. Even as a young cub, when the fire hit she tucked her brother in front of her and kept her back to the den's entrance. She cares deeply for others despite her constant struggles with fear, willing to endure the worst of it just to help when she can.
Submissive -
Tealight...isn't good at standing up for herself. For others, she can muster up a few shreds of courage, but whenever demanded to do something or act a certain way, she folds with little protest. Always the one to back down in a fight or forfeit anything, her deep desire to please people around her makes her a doormat in a lot of ways. It makes her an obedient young cat, sure, but it also leaves her open to getting pushed around easily.
Enthusiastic +
Shy as Tealight may be sometimes, she possesses immense enthusiasm for life and learning about the world around her, always eager to share her knowledge to anyone willing to listen. Rarely are her patrols dull and she never approaches anything with less than her full energy, eyes bright and ears ready to take in the day. Cleaning up the den can turn into a game, playing and working alongside others is always fun, and strangers in her Clan are just friends she hasn't met yet. And if you get her started on some of her projects? She shines like the Sun herself, a bundle of energy and starry-eyed love for her scholarly and artistic pursuits.
Cowardly -
Unfortunately, Tealight struggles with being a cowardly lion, her first instinct usually being to run or hide from danger instead of facing it head on. Coddling from the nursery helpers and past experiences didn't help this aspect of her personality, something that complicated her guard training for moons. In time, she's grown to overcome a good deal of what was present at the start of her apprenticeship, though she's got a long way left to go too. Once she can cement herself as a proper guard and protect her squad, though, she might be ready to stand on her four paws with confidence and courage.
Perceptive +
Ever observant and very plugged-in to the process of reading people and places, Tealight is very perceptive of the world around her. It's easy for her to pick up on the moods of cats near her, chiming in with a distraction if needed or merely sitting back and listening if the tone doesn't permit her more bouncy energies. It also makes her an excellent learner and observer with most subjects, even as she's gotten older.
Kind +
Even if she's a mess sometimes, awkward, and high-energy, Tealight is kind and tries to always do well by her Clan and those that she meets, regardless if they're CliffClan or not. If she knows your favorite color or flower, she'll do her best to track something down to surprise you with later. If a friend is feeling down, her shoulder is there and her ideas for something to make them feel better or take their mind off it are at the ready.
Loyal +
It doesn't matter if you've hissed at her, said something terrible about her, belittled her or treated her as a non-cat creature, Tealight has your back and always will. She would do anything for her Clanmates and the safety of her family, even if it means facing her deepest fears or putting her own life at risk. Once anyone earns her loyalty, Tealight's dedication doesn't falter for a second. Her own judgement, to her, is not more valuable than the life of another, no matter how unpleasant they are. Everyone is worth protecting, because they are a person, and she would never betray them.
Self-Conscious *
It's hard to not be a little self-conscious when you're already bigger than most of your clanmates! Tealight is deeply aware of her size and how others sometimes react to her, making sure that she carefully tailors her interactions so as to make others more comfortable. While this can be helpful sometimes, often it only feeds into Tealight's worries and insecurities that she struggles with.
Artistic ^
Tealight has an eye for the visual arts! She loves to craft murals and portraiture with her ochre and mud paints, a variety of tools now nearby her palette. Any excuse for her to use her creative tendencies is met with bright, shining enthusiasm, moreso than usual anyways. She also loves to decorate the pelts of others, using her blunted porcupine quill to intricately detail designs into their fur.
Anxious -
There's more than a few valid reasons for Tealight to be an anxious child, especially given her deceased family's actions. She worries constantly over her position in CliffClan, over who she is and if she's destined to become like them. Making sure that her Clanmates like her and don't fear her is the most important thing, otherwise she'll be left all alone when she's older, right? She has to be a good lion, she has to always be good, because bad lions fall off cliffs and get burned with fire. Well, perhaps not but...there's always something to worry about.
Obsessive -
Fed by her anxiety, Tealight unfortunately is prone to fixating on the little things, especially when they relate to the moods of others or their potential opinion of her. Larger goals and issues are not safe from this either, as her career as a warrior almost never fully manifested when she became fixated on the cruel words of some of her clanmates. This also leads to her becoming utterly absorbed in her projects, passing out with her quill in-paw while working on a painting or her language studies.
Insecure -
It's hard for Tealight to not let her self-conscious behavior spiral into insecurity, her mind constantly nitpicking how she acts and reading far too much into the reactions of others. While genuine and kind, she struggles to truly accept compliments or reassurances, basking in any degree of validation and promptly velcroing herself to whoever provides it. This feeds into a large sense of clinginess with those close to her and Tealight flounders a bit when left fully alone. She's gained more independence as she's grown older, but this insecurity hasn't faded either.
Romantic *
The world is a beautiful place, everyone within it has some degree of virtue, and life is glorious thing. Tealight meets every morning with a soft twinkle in her eye and a fondness in her heart for everything in the Sun's reach. Even the smallest aspects of life can have purpose, right? She takes a very romantic view of the world, even if she head is in the clouds sometimes.

Story
The time spent with mother and her littermate seem so far away now. Teakit was born in a den far from the Cliff nursery saguaros, nestled in featherdown and animal fur to a mother she can't even recall the name of. Small and under the care of her parent, alongside her older brother when he was able, her first moons were honey-sweet, though Mother grabbed both her and her sibling to take them elsewhere soon after. When she first beheld CliffClan's camp, she regarded it as merely a new place that Mother was taking them to play, full of colorful animals and toys to pounce upon. Some she even managed to catch for a moment!
She's old enough to know the faces and garbled names of some in the camp that her unsteady paws had grasped at. To hold the guilt and knowledge that her night of fun was one of terror for her now-Clanmates. That Mother and Brother killed and stained the dirt with the blood of cats who didn't deserve to die.
Teakit was still ignorant of that fact for a while, though, playing in Tallstep's den and digging up his garden with her littermate, playing hide and seek in the dens, blissful and unaware of the cat bones in camp that were just as sapient as her, once. They were just toys, annoying sometimes, scary from time to time, they couldn't hurt her.
Right?
--
She remembers Mother's howl, her pleas to them both as she tucked them into the medicine den when the fire came and smoke flooded her new home. Brother securing them before charging forward with a snarl, her Auntie following after him, thunder crashing in the sky and tears streaming down her face from smoke and fear. Even as she tried to huddle away from the blaze, she was compelled to try and find the form of Mother in the chaos as the small lions screamed and scattered.
The image sits in her nightmares. She looked away and hid herself alongside her littermate at the back of the den, wheezing from the smoke and trembling like a leaf, but unwilling to go outside for anyone or anything. Thunder shook the earth and she cried for her Mother, but at least the terrible sound took the fire away with its arrival. Her new home was charred but...mostly standing. Now she just had to wait for Mother or Brother or Auntie to find them!
None of them came. The small lions did, though, ones that smelled of cold stone wrapping her terrified form in soft fur and giving her the first sip of water she'd tasted in hours. One smelled vaguely of Mother's scent, in a way, a wisp of milk on the air, but the others were alien to her nose. Not unwelcome, though. A small lion she recalled from the first night was there, angry-looking and full of hisses, so she kept herself tied to the Stone Lions, tail clasping her sibling's whenever she was able.
Until they were taken apart, carried by separate small lions, and Teakit could only let out sounds of dismay as the friendly Stone Lions left her with the others, with the Sun Lions. A small, fluffy, black and white Sun Lion carried her back and all she could think to do was cling to her, a rasping mewl the only sound she was capable of making. She'd never see any of her blood family again, but the saguaro she was taken to was warm, the Sun Lions curled up with her kind, and she was very tired.
As the moons have passed, she's started to understand her new Clanmates more, though her grasp of speaking cat is still unsteady. The nursery cats are Ivoryfrost and Jitterbug, the kind molly is Skunknose, and this is CliffClan. Her name is Teakit. The guards listen to her ramble in half-broken cat-tongue about her favorite colors and her mud paints. They are there because her family did terrible things. They were killed for it, the Clans started the fire, and not everyone likes the fact that she's here.
Somehow, it feels like so much of that is her fault.
She has to make sure she doesn't grow up bad. She has to do everything she can to make it up to everyone who is scared and sad because of her. At least the largest among her clanmates, Cicadasong and Mesquiteshade, seem to understand her like Skunknose does. That and Miss Hopeflight! Between them and spending time with Lightningthistle and Mudkit, things aren't so bad...
She just doesn't like how some cats keep looking at her...
---
More language acquired and more conversations had with clanmates has led to Teakit being more open to roaming around, her artistic skills also properly manifesting with the encouragement of multiple cats. If she had it her way, she'd do nothing but paint, whiling the days away sketching and coloring in art of her clanmates and camp. And she loves to repay others for their kindness alongside her efforts to try and sway less-enthusiastic clan members.
Even cats like Rosepath, who tear her gifts to pieces.
It's fine. It's...fine.
...
She wishes she looked like anything other than herself.
Apprenticeship (9-Present)
Teakit changes to Teapaw with a yowl of protestation, running away from her new mentor, Dustheart, soon after the ceremony concludes. She's equal parts frightened and upset, her hopes dashed at having Skunknose as her mentor, or Cicadasong, or...or anyone besides a cat who's been avoiding her since she could recognize the behavior. Fear, too, nips at her heels, brought on by worries of her new squad not liking her. She isn't sure what to do now...
And it seems like her mentor isn't sure either, for a bit. Dustheart and her have a rough start, choosing to eventually start fresh on their first outing. Apologies are exchanged and, worried as she is, Teapaw has some hope inside her chest now.
Warriorhood (NOT YET UNLOCKED)
Trivia
Teapaw likes to collect pigment paints, dried flowers, and nice smelling resin. She wants to paint her fur with the first but is too shy to ask anyone to help.
The smoke from the camp fire gave her a bit of damage in her lungs, so her stamina isn't as great as a regular mountain lion's and she's prone to getting the sniffles.
Tea has a photographic memory and an excellent recollection for words, for better or for worse.
She keeps a mental list of everyone's favorite colors.
If she were a human she'd be a perfumist or art student when she was older.
